Thanks buddy. I had the wheels done local. I took a calculated risk to not blast them first, if I had the choice again I'd definitely blast them. Front wheel came out perfect, rear wheel has a few imperfections but I'll decide wether to re-coat over winter. Theres a nice 1299 on eBay with gold wheels I think white gold, would give you a good indication of what it looks like on a red 1299 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bargain-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
The bike is finally going back together, wheels have been painted, forks have been anodised. Forks look good, wheels so-so, I might have to re do them in the future, maybe powder coat them or something. This is the colour I was expecting for the wheels. Not this.
It's difficult to appreciate what the wheels look like from the shots you have put up so far... They may look very different once you have them out in the open and good natural light... Both my 1198 and Mrs M's Monster wheels change in appearance with varying levels of natural light which I quite like. See photo's below which show how different the same colour can look...
@Andy800 Did you weigh the two swingarms before fitting? Curious if this is a cost effective way of getting lighter 1098/1198 wheels on a 899?
Didn't weigh the two but from what I've read the SSSA comes in at 5.1kg and the standard is 6.0, Not sure if that takes into account the spindle on SSSA, spindle and sprocket carrier weren't light. I'll ask the question to the technician when I see him next
Thank you for sharing this, I’ll share some more pics once I have the bike back. Those wheels look really nice
i thought so too. Found a doc that said otherwise. I have the document on my computer, can’t find it using my phone
http://www.visordown.com/features/7-things-you-didnt-know-about-ducatis-899-panigale Says the 899 one is lighter. I’m sure I read on a forum it was too.
I was always under the impression the single was the heavier of the two. I wonder about the overall weight of the swing arm, eccentric hub, spindle, sprocket carrier etc, surely the collective weight is heavier.. one thing that did add huge weight was the OEM sprocket, ditched that for a renthal sprocket and JT carrier.
Fitted the RapidBike EVO today A bit of a faff to get to the injector connector as the abs pump is in the way and there’s not a lot of room for the harness Tried locating it where the flapper valve motor was but decided the inner fairing is a much neater job Air filter change tomorrow
Changed the filter for a k&n. Is due a blow through on its 2nd service (now due) and then replaced on the 3rd but it was manky so we’ll worth changing
Started to fit my blipbox pro today, pretty simple with the instructions from BSD got most of it done in under an hour then it got too cold so ill fit the load cell tomorrow
Renewed my policy. They asked me what mods I had on the bike. Wasn’t falling for that so I asked what ones she had listed. Lets just say our lists differed a bit and leave it there. You kind of forget how much you end up doing to a bike don’t you lol
Which is fine until you’re involved in an accident where you go to hospital and the bike gets recovered and then taken to the insurance assessors... they know a standard bike and really will look for any excuse. Trust me, it happens.
I'll be facing the insurance "mod declaration" soon. I've no intention to hide anything but Its so difficult to know what to mention.... Brakes/SSSA conversion/paint/ohlins/magnesium clutch cases clearly need mentioning but what about the little bits, tail tidy, bar ends, foot pegs/rad guards and such, do they need to be mentioned
