Hi, has anyone on here gone from the BM to the Ducati? Had one for a year loved the riding position and comfort, hated the weight of it when wheeling it around! Also. really missed the power of ZZR14 had before it .currently have a K12s. but just not comfy after a couple of hours, hoping the Multi would offer the best compromise? Would love to hear from anyone who has made that change, good or bad, Cheers P.S love the new site, all the other MTS sites seem to be US based
Yes, via a Speed Triple in between. I miss the fuel range, and the BM was ever so slightly more comfortable due to better protection, but apart from that the balance swings to the MTS. Better handling, better brakes, more power...all items I ran into the limits of on the GSA.
Thanks Doodle that's just what i was hoping to hear, one thing i know i will miss is the wind protection, being able to ride at triple figure speeds with visor up quite bizarre! Am kicking myself now as had a look at Ducati. before taking GSA for a test ride, if only the staff at the Ducati place had shown even a passing interest things may have been different
Hi, I had a GSXR 1000 before the GS, wanted to go further and in more comfort. The GS is a fantastic bike, I uprated the suspension, fitted bits and pieces to it, and it handled great, well that was once I learnt to trust the front, no feedback at all from it, but on the flipside there is no brake dive, well minimal anyway. It is comfy, reliable, quicker than peeps realise, it can stick with sportsbikes on the twisties, but bloody hard work. You get to your destination, park up, 30 seconds later you have got your panniers off and heading for the hotel room, very user friendly. I had it for three years, Romania, Poland, Spain lots off miles, not one problem. But, its not a bike that ever lit my fire, its functional, thats the best way of putting it for me, I never used to open up the garage and go wow, I stopped going out for quick blats on an evening that I would have on previous sportsbikes, I lost my mojo for riding in between my big trips. I wanted to change, but nothing else grabbed me. I bought the Multi, ex demo, year old at a steal, I had to have it! Its great, quick, and you go wow when you open the door, well usually I do but its under about 3 inches of sawdust at the moment, another story! Its as comfy,in fact probably more comfy, wind blast though gets me on my chest, after a while makes me want to scratch my hairy chest as the constant blast hits it, bit annoying but I have a different screen to try. Handles far better, haven't had it on track yet but hopefully this year, the front lets you know everything, on PR3s I rode in the pissing wet through the west of Scotland, up the side of Loch Ness (Inverness used to be home so I know the road well)I was wringing the bike as much as I was, I could not have gone quicker on a sports bike, in fact i would say most times I am quicker on the Multi. I now have my mojo back, I am planning still to do my long trips, Italian Alps or St Petersburg this years destination. So in summary, everything is better, apart from, pannier system, wind blast(sustained high speed), drop it and it will probably be twice the repair bill. Thats about it, happy to answer any specific questions you would like to know, cheers.
Thanks for reply, you hit the nail on the head about the GS, it just doesn't set your soul on fire! sounds like the multi should be everything I'm after, i will be looking at a used sport model, probably 5-10000 miles will i be getting any surprises service wise in first couple of years?
Only time will tell really, so far they seem pretty good, some reports of radiators disintegrating, some had engine failures, but very few i think, barring any random thing I would reckon on no more than any other bike, thats what I tell myself anyway!!
Ironically, although the Ducati has had a few niggly issues, it has never failed to start or to get me to my destination. The GSA let me down twice, in half the mileage the MTS has covered. Enough said.
Once again thanks for replies, what I was meaning to say was at what mileage are the big services due i.e belts and roughly how much are these? Cheers
Hi, i have owned a f800gs and liked it at the time. Then got a diavel carbon, had it for 3 months and sold it, did like it but not for me. Then with out a bike but went on a trip from livingstone to cape town on a gs1200 with the famous charley boorman. Great trip but hated the bike from start to finish, boring is my best discription. Came home and got a multi s and all i can say is it is fantastic. Its comfortable, fast and looks good. get one.
The GS12 is a great bike, you can get it to hussle with a bit of effort, in fact the effort made it quite enjoyable for me (a few bolt on goodies and tuning helped......Ohlins, bars, full exhaust, k&n, Power Commander, BT020/021, lowered seat.....dyno set up;-) I like (love!) the MTS1200 way more but there are still times I wish I could have afforded to keep the GS as well.
Nice bike Andy, must admit, on some bumpy b roads you could float along at speeds you could only dream of on a sports bike without them tying themselves in knots
That is so correct, a week before I got the GS I went out for a mad hoolie on the GSXR1000, i met up with the mate, on his GS1200, we went along some fen roads that are twisty but very very rippled and bumpy due to subsidence, I could only just keep with him as I was being bounced out the seat and thrown all over the place, the GS just floated!! The Multi floats aswell though!!
Quote " the multi does that as well though" Glad to hear it, thought it was just a quirk of the para/telelever suspension!
Had a test ride yesterday, wow what a bike, so light, feels tiny and is the most comfortable bike i have ever ridden! Ergnomics very good, fueling was good, and wind protection s lot better than i was expecting, tried screen fully up and down, didn't notice much difference, rear brake pedal took some finding at first and did require a very firm push, also hit a few false neutral between gears on downchanges but again cured with a very positive nudge. Looking for a used model, is it worth looking at non franchise/ specialists or is it best to stick with for peace of mind?
Previous GS rider, good bike, very practical ride having done many miles ...But unfortunatley no good when you really want to open up on twisty's etc - just way too heavy! Soo much more fun on the MTS - you'll never look back  Used model with warranty, depending on previous history, updates etc
Had the ZZR14, chopped it in for a GS, then a K1200S and now the multi. The only one of those that made (makes) me feel I cant wait to ride is the multi. Totally addictive. It just feels alive and its so responsive. The only other bike that even remotely felt the same was a TL1000S I had years ago. By the way I really hated the K1200S. The amount of times it let me down. Clutch, electronic suspension, ABS. Complete money pit!!
TL1000 now i bet that was interesting to ride!! But i thinks that's part of the whole thrill of riding a bike, it has to have the ability to thrill, the GS and K12S are just so dull, the ZZR14 was amazing after a bit of fettling, like switching the millennium falcon into light speed, but just not a bike i could ride all day!
I am going this way - can't wait. I went to see the Ebay black Mutley in Newcastle on Friday _ the photo came nowhere near showing the quality of the bike _ unfortunately the timing was not quite right for me. Someone got real bargain for £8K !!
