1200 DVT Dvt Sat Nav And Other Questions?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by spannerman, Nov 24, 2017.

  1. Hello all. I purchased a DVT when they first came out and had nothing but grief with it. It constantly broke down due to endless keyless/immobilser issues, plus fuel tank sender and other problems I gave in and part exchanged it for something else. Now two years on I am thinking of coming back and purchasing a brand new 2017 1200s touring as when the bike was running I loved it.

Have Ducati ironed out the previous problems with the early DVT's?

I have a Garmin 595 and want to mount to the bike, what options are open to me?

    Thank you in advance
    Keith

  2. Yes, everything I hear the 2017 is issue free. Well, as issue free as a new bike can be when it’s loaded with electronics and exposed to weather :upyeah:

  3. Using my 2017 for everyday/all weather commuting and had 3500 great miles so far.

My Zumo 390 is mounted on a Ramon the left hand bar. Works fine but I’m thinking of buying the Ducati high mount having seen it at the show (on one of the stand bikes). Sat nav power is available near the front left fork. If you’re buying a new bike ask the dealer to fit it (pay for the parts not the Labour).

  4. I've got a 2015 DVT and although three months old when I bought it I've had zero trouble with the remote/security. There have been a few recall items but AFAIC no show stoppers and it has been very reliable.

As for a GPS mount, buy one of these:[IMG]

Mount it on top of the screen adjuster with a couple of screws and nuts through the plastic - there's enough room underneath for the adjuster to be squeezed and operated. Then get a short connecting double socket and attach your GPS backing mount to it.[IMG]I also cut the power cable and soldered on a simple push-together connector, attaching it to the LH screen mount frame with a small P-clip so I can take the mount off the bike and just leave the ball mount in place when I wasn't using the GPS.

Simple and inexpensive, stable, above the dash for easy reading without loosing forward vision, and I'm not left with scaffolding in front of me unlike other mounts e.g. Navihalter

I've got photos of the same arrangement that I used on my 2013 Multi. PM me if you want to see them - a picture is worth a thousand words but I don't know how to get them on the forum!
EDIT: I've found out how to upload photos. Below is the set-up on a 2013 Multi but it is essentially the same on a DVT

  6. Navilhalter for stand, can't beat it IMHO (and wants a member on here making them now?)

  7. Been looking at the Navihalter, but nobody seems to have stock

  8. The Ducati high mount cannot be used with any other gps other than the zumo 390. You can make a base plate for the 595 though

  10. Sat navs are a dying breed and are very old hat so use your phone instead. TomTom or CoPilot are good but Waze is free and very nearly as good (doesnt have twisty road setting) as the other two.

  11. Hi
I have a 2016 DVT, so far trouble free. I use a 595 with a touratech locking mount but found that it was difficult to get the sat nav mounted high up and stable. I tried a couple of mounts, but in the end went for the Palmer products screen adjuster with the accessory bar and found that it gives a good solid mount in the right place. I always had issues with buffeting off the top of the screen as well and the adjuster has cured that too, which is a welcome bonus.

  12. I’m running a Palmer screen on the KTM and it’s awesome. The accessory bar is very stable and secure. I run a quad lock mount on there and use my phone running Waze.

  13. I have the Navihalter type, bought off a member on here to fit a Tomtom 410. I first fitted it with Tomtom locking device, but this forced it to be fitted so high and far away from the screen it was almost impossible to see it due to the bouncing. Had to remove the locking part which lowered it a little, but it still bounces a lot, and I don't know as yet how to improve it.
But I do prefer it around line of sight rather than having to look down.

  14. I’m getting that the consensus appears to be that the high level ones appear to vibe or bounce around?
Anyone 100% happy with the high level mount?
Where have people bought the BikePenRs from? How much is it?

  15. I fitted an extra bolt on the high one to the middle of the screen (used extra screen bolt and rubber) that limits the vibration.

  16. My high-level set-up is stable with the screen at its lowest setting, and only a bit less, but still perfectly readable, when the screen is at its highest. And a LOT cheaper and neater than the ironwork you can buy.

  17. Ordered mine from Holland off the web, quite pricey but a lovely machined item.ive tried a navi halter on previous multi but found it vibes and too close to you face if you 'tuck in' behind screen! Bear in mind Bike penr no good if you use tank bag!

  18. Hmmmm. I use a tank bag all the time so I'm thinking a higher sat nav mount would probably be best in my situation

  19. I have been looking at the Engimoto sat nav mount, Anybody used one here and if so what did you people think?

  20. I have one of these. My old 350 and my current 395 fits. Who told you only the 390 fits ?
