848 Insurance

  1. Hi everyone.

I've been hunting about a bit for insurance for the 848. I'm not having much luck online getting competitive quotes. I seem to be stuck around the £700 mark for FC cover with the Termis declared.

Clean licence, 10yrs NCB, no claims or points, garaged, 33 years old with 14 years continual riding history. Somehow they capped my NCB entitlement at 10 year but it doesn't seem to matter.

Best I can get is about £600 stock, £700 with the cans. My GSXR was about £250 a year so this is a lot of dough. Any ideas where I should try? I've tried the usual suspects so far but need to call Ducati insurance too, although their online quote was about £1100! Does calling after an online quote help at all?

    Would really appreciate any pointers.

    Thanks.

    Andy

  2. Have you spoken to Carole Nash? When I p/x'd my R1 for the 848 EC it cost £27 more, and came in at £357 FC. :upyeah:

  3. I got mine off compare the market and use mce , £300 fc

  4. Aye, Carole Nash are cheapest just now. They seem to offer a good package though and last time I dealt with them the were superb.

  5. Compare the Market showed MCE at about £350 I think but when I got a quite from MCE's own website it came in at £750 so I disregarded the Comparison one.

Maybe I should go back and check that one over. I've never had much faith in the comparison sites for some reason, might be time to change that!

  6. Dealing direct with an insurance company does not necessarily get you a good quote. When I got the 848 EC I tried Aviva and they were over £700 from memory. CN insured me through Aviva at £357. Work that out

  7. I would always phone up
Find your best quote and then phone who you may be insured with they can usually match if not better it.
I have found the comparison websites list cheaper than the actual company.
I guess if you don't shop around you may not be getting the best.

  8. Yip. I shop around a lot for insurance as I've had crazy variations over the years. I was with Express for about 5 years though as they were always cheapest for the GSXR.

So now I feel like I'm back to square one as its a different bike. I've a few weeks to sort it out so I'll keep at it. Finding it strange that the comparison. sites are cheaper but I'll use them up get a price then call whoever it is to be sure it's got the right cover.

    Ta. :)

  9. Footman James?

  10. Never even contemplated them. Will give them a buzz.

    Cheers!

  11. Ducati Insurance are normally ok, and I just did mine with Bennets as it was 25% less than CN and I kow the guys the and couldnt get near for a change. Swinton have been pretty good in the past too.

  12. Try Kwik Fit Insurance.

  13. Ducati Insurance have been the best for me for the last few years, my insurance is really low, but the compulsory excess amount seems to have rocketed lately. Fine and dandy if you don't have to make a claim, but becomes a bit more "ouch" if you do. My quote came back from them last month and had gone up a lot, so I phoned up and said what he hell was going on, and the bloke said, "oh, didn't you get the alternative quote in the letter?" "er, no... it is not there..." (of course:rolleyes: ) - this new quote was a couple of hundred quid cheaper, but the compulsory excess had gone up by £150 ......

  14. My Bike now falls into their "classic policy" , even with all my mods I was surprised at the quote.
Low excess and a decent "return to home" breakdown.

It's a Club rate and I have to join the Ducati Owners Club or the Vintage Japanese Bike Club to get it.

Not decided which one to join yet...

  15. I'm younger, less NCB and I pay slightly less for fully comped 1098S... but then I live in Cambridge which is rather safe and I'm insured with Bike Devil which I heard is rather shit

  16. Its a nightmare insuring a Ducati Andy. I had a right ding dong with MCE as they doubled the premium after I commited to buying the bike. I have 9 years ncb and am 43 years old. My GSXR1000 ltd edition was £130 fully comp. The 1098 was coming in at around £700 cheapest for some reason. I finally managed to get it down to £380 with a massive excess with MCE. I had to bite the bullet and use MCE as the next best quote was £650. I am no fan of MCE I can tell you!

  17. Why are Ducati's so much more expensive to insure? They tend to be owned by the more mature rider. I Insured a GSXR1000 with 1 years NCB years ago for £300 fully comp!

  18. Because they're 'an Italian exotica' and are quite expensive to repair? Or maybe because some owners buy them because they're pretty and it's a Ducati but don't really know how to ride so when they do eventually go out for a ride they end up on the first tree/ditch etc.... I don't know, it's just a guess... insurance prices don't make much sense these days anyway. Adding my fiancee to my car policy costed more after she got her full licence than before when she only had a provisional one... go figure

  19. 1yrs ncb, £300 with bennets. Also garaged with ducati alarm and abus ground anchor. Dreading renewal though next month as all the quotes so far have gone up!

  20. Bike Devil is MCE cloaked!
