I've scoured the trade for an early monster have highlighted these two as potential purchases. The S4 (26k) would be higher maintenance but comes with more bling so my common sense is pushing me towards the Dark 750 (17k), but then the S4 beckons......both same year, price, mot and usual vague service history. Any comments to sway me either way?
Massive performance difference between those two, what do you want from your monster and how do you ride ? How much are the bikes ?
S4 every day of the week. Some purists scoff at the water cooled S4 but much better Bike and as it’s the 916 motor it has dry clutch etc.
I had a 600 dark and swopped it for a new S4 a few years back. I got a bagster tank bag and DP rack which was nonfango with a case thrown in. Toured Europe with the wife. Superb bike. Still got the luggage system and som high level link pipes for the S4 S4 for me.
Well my riding style used to be Enduro, not ever had a significant road bike, so my riding style will be to adjust In cars trucks and other things in my life I think there are a lot of bargains if you don't mind a bit of noughties retro and as others get melted down you can end up with something desirable, collectable, a joy to own and use. Prices are entry level, think I'll pursue the S4 although the Dark is in better condition.
Excuse the shameless plug but I am selling a very low mileage S4R on here. Only 6400 miles and @ £3350 the cheapest S4R for sale that I can see at the moment, cheaper than some S4s. Please let me know if you are interested and the best of luck with whatever you get either way.
Bought the S4 from a very genuine chap and I'm very happy with it so far. Power Commander fitted- I'll need to read up about that, and lots of Carbon fibre. Lots of history.
Just keep an eye out for the regulator rectifier. If it’s original one it might go pop and fry your battery but easily changed for a triumph 675 one with a triumph loom. Not overly expensive and then can be relocated under the undeetray to side cooling.
750 for me, it’s all tied up with personal choice of appearance and asthetics, but for me the increase in power is not worth all the extra plumbing and electrical complications that come with the 916 Monster. Only a 996 version would tempt me a away from the simplicity of the M900/M750.
Impressively fast work, within 10 hours of your original post asking opinions you have made up your mind, bought the bike and got it home. Good work. Enjoy the bike and I think you made the right choice.
Good choice, you'll enjoy it without a doubt. Next step will be upgrade to an S4RS which is the best of the lot for me personally. Get some pictures up and show us what you've got and let us know what your first impressions of riding it are.
