hi all, hope everybody had a good xmas and new year! i need a quick show of hands on something! i currently have a 2005 999.i have got the opportunity to buy a 2011 848 with 200 miles on the clock for £6500!!He bought it as an ornament for his house!unbelieveable i know!! should i go for it? i love my 999 but the greater servicing intervals for the 848 are edging it at the moment! all thoughts and advice greatfully recieved!!
Dunno, but as an owner of an 05 999, I'll be very interested to hear the answer. I've always suspected (with no actual knowledge) that the 848 would have less torque and wouldn't reward lazy riding as much. Is this the case?
I think you have to answer this question yourself. I would say buy 848 just based on the looks, let alone anything else but it's just my opinion  A sensible approach would be to make a list of pros and cons of both bikes and choose the one that wins... but then, since when anyone is using a sensible approach when buying a bike
yeah, i have heard that the 848 is not as torquey lower down, which is one of the things i love about my 999,but think i would be mad to let go what is essentially a brand new bike! going to have a look at it today so i will report back later!!
I have a 03 999s and an 848 evo and the 848 wins hands down all day long. The only reason I have kept the 999 is that it has a special place in my heart and only 5k on the clock ;-)
Reckon it's a bit of a deal, unless you can manage to keep the 999 as well, just for a change. Don't get fooled by the reduced servicing costs thing though.
okay, just got back!the guy selling it phoned me as i was on the way down to say it had gone dammit!! stopped off at On Yer Bike on the way back-struck a deal on an 08 plate 848.2k miles, termis and carbon bits, single seat hump etc for £6600.test ride tomorrow to see if i get on with it. was going to chop in the 999 but my wife wont let me!she wants to do her bike test and have the 9!!so both the 9 and my wife are keepers!! wish me luck for tomorrow!!
That really sounds like a result. Streuth - at least some people on here have some good luck. Heartening!
I have a 749s and a 848 and the thing that blew me away with the 848 is the handeling! Its so "chuckable" in comparison, you can be kinda lazy on it just not as layed back as a litre bike. Oh and those brembo radials!! Result on the wife wanting the 999. Cant get my wife to take my 749, so its gotta go. She does still have my 98 r1(red seat model!!) so cant be too grumpy
Sorry duke, as much as i would like the rsv need cash for other things, some toys for the 848 and talkin the wife into wdw!!
