Beware Those Speed Trap Camera Vans

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Coman, Dec 15, 2017.

  1. I just received a reminder of my visit to Snells nine days ago. A Notice of Intended Prosecution:sob:
On the way there up the A31 at Bentley I saw a speed trap van at the side of the opposite carriageway. I was pretty much level when I saw it and noticed it was pointing at the front of the traffic on its side of the dual carriageway and at rear of traffic on my carriageway. It crossed my mind that it might catch me but I didn't really think it was programmed to log vehicles driving away from it as well as those approaching it, and maybe the Armco barrier would shield my number plate anyway.
How wrong I was. I now have a certificate that I achieved 85mph and I face a £95 fine and four hours of a speed awareness course. Better that than three points on the licence.

So beware of those pesky vans - they work on both approaching and receding traffic:astonished:

  2. You still get the points added if you break the rules within a certain time frame. So you are no off the hook as yet.

  3. Hi @Coman , sorry to hear you got snapped from a van on the other side of dual carriageway. I got done the same way last year on the A3 Northbound on the way back home from Portsmouth. As I was "only" doing 82 mph I took the option of the course. I say "only" having reviewed my Sat Nav log.

Edit: I think it was the A3 not A33.

  6. Theyre getting funds for their nye party
    Cnuts.

  7. As it was a posted limit (50) I'm on a yellow card. Any further speeding infractions and I'm stuffed for 3 years. DIC or DD and I can forget it. Andy

  8. I live on a residential road with a 30MPH limit that is constantly abused by many drivers way over 30 without consideration for the limit, pedestrians, invalid scooters or cyclists.

Requests to councillors, police and 'safer roads' have produced a common response! "it has an excellent safety record" which is apparently? the main criteria used when deciding where to place so called safety vans.

Consequently when I see them on A3, A31, A34 dual carriageways with no pedestrians or invalid scooters I question the logic of the idiots that make decisions on our behalf!

  9. There are two answers to that question. One is the half truth about 'Safety' and good/bad safety record for sighting the cameras, the other is the lack of cash in the coppers coffers. It is illegal to sight them for maximum gain, but we are easy targets and not liable to be able to effectively complain.

  11. I did the course last May they mentioned that if i get caught again on my bike i wouldn't be able to do the course again so points straight away but if in my car then i can do a course as the bike one is called "Ride awareness course which is to educate you on bike riding only" not car driving.
    I did 39 in a 30 :motorcycleduc:

  12. Not sure if this is correct? I did a "Speed awareness course" in Suffolk a while ago, and no distinction was made between drivers and riders (I was on the bike when I got snapped).

  13. Same here....no mention of different courses. I've done 2 now, 3 years+ apart, also got 3 points last july. Damn my Tourettes tick (which only seems to affect my right wrist)

  14. Someone I know regularly used to hammer his bike past a particular forward facing stationary camera in Lincoln thinking fairly logically, and smugly, that he wouldn't get caught because obviously the camera couldn't see his rear mounted number plate, he triggered the flash quite a few times....he always used to wear a very distinctive helmet and one day he was pulled over by a patrol car and given a friendly caution for speeding past the camera, he had pissed them off enough for them to be on the lookout for his helmet (AGV Hailwood rep) and his red 900SS ,the copper told him they couldn't be 100% certain that it was him but they had reasonable grounds...hence the caution and not a ban....it slowed him down quite a lot!...:innocent:

  18. I asked the question to the copper who ran out from the bus stop who got me and again whist on the course and both mentioned that and said Essex police do the ride course for biles only and another course for cars,

Essex police don't start the Ride course until around April as they said bikers start riding then as winter is over, was your course a Ride one,
my course was 100% based on bike riding and the buffet lunch was fantastic, No it really was good food :upyeah: so i pigged out to get my moneys worth :innocent:

  19. Got knicked back in September 3 lanes over from the van going away from it (away from the rear of the van). The only fucking day I put a normal sized Plate on for the mot. I've never ever in my life been given an opportunity to go on a speed awareness course!

  20. Bad luck , are the cameras not able to read smaller plates eg 7x5?
