Just watched the news about the pressure on the emergency services this weekend due to drunk people. Take a payment from them before they are picked up off the floor. Why should I pay via my taxes to self inflicted drunks.
To say nothing of clogging up A&E and casualty units through their own idiocy when there are more deserving people waiting.
Let nature decide, if they survive where they are until sober they can make their way to A&E. If they don’t they’ll be measured for a wooden box.
Slippery slope imo. There are a lot of single/ childless people who pay for other peoples children via taxes. Motorcycling injuries cost the DWP benefits £219 million and NHS and police costs associated are £162 million. Then there are people who are overweight or smoke who cost a fair bit of your taxes.
I haven't got an answer for that but we thank you v much Chiz and AC especially as it's every day with Chiz and AC costs thousands to lift
As a recent former Ambulance dispatcher and trainer, there is an increase of members of the public who simply will not take responsibility for their own actions and general safety. These people like to use phrases, normally with a stream of f bombs ,to remind you that they pay for your wages etc. etc. In the meanwhile Doris, who is at the other end of the age group, wont call despite exhibiting far worse symptoms as she simply doesn't want to bother anyone. A bit of a generalisation I know but a noted pattern never the less.
I'm out with work tonight. I think it's a sign of getting old when the part I'm looking forward to most is getting back into the warm house at the end of the night.
interesting. there was a similar discussion just a week or two about minimum pricing which appeared to go against the forum missives thinking.
I think you have hit the nail on the head stu pendus.Increasingly we have a society where are large number of people are either lacking common sense, are ignorant/stupid,and would prefer other people to take over the responsibility for their short comings and actions. As you say, most of the older generation will only call for help when they are probably at deaths door almost. My daughter,a senior Paramedic, has told me instances of some of their call outs that beggar belief.
You'd think after all these years you'd be used to it. People aren't going to sit around all Mary poppins style raising a glass of sherry, they're going to get f@cking w@nkered and make goddamn sure you know about it. If you don't want to see it stay at home when it's late, if you do want to see it get pissed and join in or sign up to the emergency services! F@cking people.... Meh
Let my give you a few examples of calls that I have heard whilst on dispatch duty on the 9's, female about 18 yrs,Broken fingernails, male about 22yrs, hiccupped 3 times, father of female 18 yrs who called about severe breathing diffs, crew turn up and father asked crew to pick daughter up as she is at the shop buying fags and just wants a lift home, male called about an overdose at nightclub, crew turn up and patient runs out of the Ambulance whilst on the way to Hospital on red stating with pride that he had no phone credit so 999 calls only and had no money left for a taxi. I could go on and on but this is increasingly happening. The last fact that I would like you to consider is that 999 calls to the Ambulance service in England have doubled in the last 9 years, we haven't had a doubling of the population in this period so what do think has prompted this increase then. Answers on a post card please.
Gotta charge for call outs and ed visits. I’ve done enough ed shifts to see plenty like the above. Just a small charge, not even levied upfront would help. They have it in Australia.
Sat in A&E a couple of times with my 96yo Dad, so seen first hand the wankers that waste NHS time and our money. It truly beggars belief. There has to be a fairly brutal filter, or the system will collapse.
I'd prefer the extension licences after 10:30 to cost a shit load more. Far too often the nightclubs are the problem with their 2 for ones etc and the rat arsed are then just unloaded onto the streets. If the nightclubs paid a higher levy on extended licences then I wonder if they would let so many out so shit faced creating mayhem for the local nhs and police?
Nowhere did I say stop it. I did say the biggest cause of over drinking in town which puts pressure on ambulances, hospitals and police, is the late night drinking joints of which most are clubs who get people rat arsed, shove them out and close the doors saying not my problem anymore. A better way to fund that extra cost would be those establishments to pay more towards those clean up costs through higher cost late night licences.
