  2. As I have said before I changed the IMS bearing on my Boxster. There is no way I can see by looking at it to tell wether it has been replaced/upgraded. The only evidence somebody could show you are receipts.
The other thing is there is very little warning of its failure and sometimes no warning.
Research in the US has shown IMS failure affects probably 5% f cars. Mostly manuals and more often cars that are infrequently driven and driven Gently.
Changing one if you have the correct tools is a straightforward job especially on a manual and is probably an extra hours work on top of a clutch change
A lot more time consuming taking the auto box off to do it as I found out

If I can offer some advice? When you type pussy into google, then go onto the images header/title, do so when you are on your own. I am now traumatised.

  4. Can tell if its been done by looking as the upgraded bearing looks different even when in place..... Apparently?

  5. I agree with noobie IMS bearing failures are something that has been blown out of all proportion. I think it is because such a small part when it fails cause such catastrophic damage.

That link about replacing the bearing is from a company I came across when doing my research
Just have a look how much they charge to replace a bearing that costs less than £100
You can buy a ceramic bearing guaranteed for the life of the car if you are interested
Do it yourself is my advice

  6. Nope not true. Mine was a double row. The same front plate went on with a spacer behind. Doesn't look any different to before I did it

  7. Mate, I don't wish to debate, cause I can't be arsed, so ask Brook speed how they know, cause they knew :upyeah:

  8. Agreeing with the badge not the search engine results ;)

  9. So @bradders..... All this time tyre kicking every Porsche known to man, starting endless advice threads, debating classic bike's, classic cars etc etc etc and the lass won't let you have one?? Spark open a 6 pack of "man up" and drink the lot old toosh..... :D:upyeah:

  10. I am not having a debate. But all I am saying is unless they have had the gearbox and the clutch
and the flywheel off they would not be able to tell and even then they couldn't be certain
Having said that I am not questioning your friends car
What I would suggest s that when the clutch is changed fit an LN beating because it would be so easy to do. Furthermore the consensus of opinion is on these engines when the clutch is changed change the IMS bearing aswell

  18. no just a punter who wants to buy something and use it. No interest in investment, just ideally that if I sell in 12 months I can get most/all my buy cost back. I'll only pay what I consider is value to me: that wont be value to others.
