Despite what they try and scare you with; unless they can prove the mod you've had fitted has contributed-to/caused the problem you are claiming against they cannot/do-not refuse the warranty. From first hand experience my advice is buy the extended warranty - it's cheap insurance.
@Air Duck, Porsche will sometimes not warrant a car if its not stock to start with, I once had a 997 C4S that had an after market USB music player cable (Dension Gateway) attached in to the Porsche PCM system. Porsche Bournemouth actually contacted Porsche Germany while I was there to ask if the car could be warranted, to which they said yes, but that goes to show how strict they can be with after market stuff. Also, if the car has hit the higher rev ranges, they can refuse to warrant it.
You are quite right with the over-revs though. If we are sympathetic/efficient with our engines we look at the power/torque curves and let that show us when we need to change gear instead of bouncing the engine off the rev limiter as our indication. That should be common sense to all but the hippiest of us I'd like to think.
That's right - the dealer was being an ass - they (dealers) are good at it. Porsche basically said "yes of course you jobsworth twat" to the dealer - which they were probably 'pleased' to report to your suddenly-stressed state. I'm guessing (but not presuming) it was the one of the first times this dealer had seen you. If you bought a new car or two every few years they'd be offering you their wife in the rear and giving you that sickly wink telling you "they'll sort it out" regards pretty much any mods you'd bought - particularly if you've paid them to fit them. It's a tough world out there but they know where they make their money.
Kind of...All but the suddenly stressed thing, that's something I never get mate, too laid back for this stressy stuff, especially when it comes to a car. (PS, what you doin up so late ?? working as well ??)
Sorry - I wasn't accusing you of being 'suddenly stressed' - I was pointing out the thinking behind the tactic they employ (on us).
Thanks for the advice, I get what you're saying. But as I've fitted a new full zorst system (with equal length headers) decat, IPD intake plenum and remap/tune, it wouldn't pass the Porsche 111 check point prior to issuing a new Porsche warranty. Sure, I could stick everything back to standard but I like it how it is and basically can't be arsed. I find the Porsche warranty renewal thing crazy. It's like you can't change a dam thing on your car without a warranty void conversation. It's like the OPC still own the car and not me! I look after my toys and particularly this! It's very sound mechanically and has no faults I can detect. I often think the OPC after market warranty is a 'product' offered by Porsche and if it didn't make money they wouldn't offer it. I'll be keeping the 1250 or whatever it is- need it towards that bloody V4 exhaust!!
Well yeah. The 'boy' never leaves us does it? I mean, every bike or car I've got my hands on since the age of 12, the first thing I've done is bury the pedal/throttle to see what happens.... (only with a warm engine in the latter years )
Yes, what @Wayne58 said. Two transmissions with a clutch each. Each (next) gear is pre selected so there is basically a solenoid that actuates from one clutch to the next. Making a very fast, almost seamless shift. Not a new technology but superbly advanced and evolved these days. Check out F1 or MotoGP (Yamaha I think) gearshifts. Makes you feel all Ayrton Senna popping down the offy.....
Hoping to go an see a 2001 3.4 cab from a dealer with 61k miles, silver with hardtop roof included and looks totally mint with massive history today, just waiting for a call back....and going to doorstep Blue one they said was sold but still all over the web locally tomorrow (big difference in their website to eBay price) Although the 2001 is a 16k car pre facelift, it’s from very reputable dealer with warranty.
Have you listened to nothing the keyboard warriors have told you Bradders ?? An early water cooled car will literally be a ticking time bomb of death !! Can you afford it brand new ? Cause if not, don't think you should be buying a badly built, piss poor, used example, it'll probably bankrupt you before you leave the forecourt, it'll drive atrociously and will be the epitome of shoddy engineering. Be careful out there Bradders !!! (PS, Good luck mate, enjoy the new ride, if you pull the pin )
Yeah...but no. nutella when you say it has an A on the end, porsche doesn't, you crazy paying for a slightly tuned beetle kind of fools
