im thinking of going to misano this year and traveling up to imola for the super duper bikes,so does anyone know whats it like as a spectator venue,where are the best spots to view and is the rail station anywhere near the track etc ?
ive been to both misano and imola several times............the rail track for both is very much in the town centres. I have generally used a pedal cycle from whatever hotel im at and cycled up to the race track....... Imola is even more nearer the town centre than misano......
The circuit is right on the edge of town, which isn't very big, it's a 2km walk so 10 minutes? Variante Alta which is at the top of the hill leading down to Rivazza at the back of the circuit and is where you get some overtaking with cars, this is a hellish fast anti-clockwise circuit with chicanes to slow things down, I haven't seen bikes here, but this where I'd watch. The 'corners' are all iconic, I say corners because they are precious few, but who hasn't heard of the Imola corners, try Acque Minerali. Tamburello at the end of the pit straight is where lots of incidents used to happen including Senna's tragedy, it's been neutered since 1994 as has the rest of the circuit, imho. Too many trees there blocking views, I'd go to the opposite end where you drive or walk into the circuit, as I suggested.
I just about did that on the treadmill in the gym, so have to agree that might be optimistic, 10km took me an hour, watched an episode of Dexter on Netflix which is about 50 minutes, the warm up and down did the other 10 mins. I'm knackered now though and just out of the shower, so going to collapse in bed. Can recommend an excellent hotel near Imola if you take the bike, secure garaging as well and a great bar out of town. Just don't think of walking back eh Gav?
