I've been filled with dread ever since my first battery grinder. Having used it to cut through various obstacles at work I quickly realised that even the best bike security devices would soon become obsolete. It's been at the back of my mind ever since. In London we suffer with push aways* far more than the back of a van or pick up truck. I assume that the van or pick up truck is easier to report and find. HENCE the stolen bike is pushed some distance away to a quiet location then loaded into a larger vehicle. Recently I had to try and move a crashed motorcycle from the road to my house for safe storage. The yokes were broken and it made the machine nearly impossible to move without huge brute force and lifting. If we could prevent the wheels from turning or better still turn them +20° (variable geometry hewdstock) from vertical the bike would be nearly imposible to move without heavy external suport. Better still would be the secure removal of the integrity of the yokes by a device thst would be very hard to attack. Clearly you would not want any device to become active while riding. Just removing or breaking the yokes makes a bike unmoved bless without lifting. I don't have a solution. Just that I want others to think of innovative ways to help us keep our machines. *Push away is the physical and steering locks are disabled and one or two scooters push the stolen bike away.
Could do with some sort of locking pin in the transmission to stop the chain moving the rear wheel. Small enough to store when riding.
My neighbour takes his wheels out of his bike in the 'off season" and keeps them in his spare room in case anyone gets into his garage.
@Exige does a similar thing except he can't be bothered to remove a wheel so he takes the whole bike into the house.
create a society where the need to steel to feed the wains is a thing of the past...... or invent an invisibility cloak to put over yer bike. neither are impossible, but finding a fool proof system is.
It’s always politics mate, isn’t it you know they don’t nick bikes to feed the poor and starving children, right?!
Electrified bars could be another option, not enough to kill but enough to really hurt. The sort of shock you get at the fair on those electric chair things.
Yep, I'll take that lawnmower tank off I'd rather use the kind of shock that the chair at Florida State Prison gives folks. But that would be wrong so I don't.
If you can find TDC every time you park up, just use a crankshaft locking tool. Just need to disable the clutch
Hmm, you need to electrocute the thief before he starts wheeling the bike away otherwise he'll drop it in his death throes and damage it which would be a shame. A shame for the bike I mean. The dead thief obviously is no loss and could just be ground up for bone meal. Its quite expensive stuff in Homebase.
