Got caught speeding on a dual carriageway recently, unmarked police car, 93mph. Fair cop, no dispute, dealt with politely by the policeman. I was offered the choice of a fixed penalty of £100 which I took and have paid up and received notification that this has been processed. The Offence code is :SV77011. Googling this I have only found this: https://www.lawdonut.co.uk/personal...road-traffic-offence-codes-and-penalty-points No mention of the SV7701, anyone know what it means? I was hoping I would get 3 points on licence. How do I find out how many points I did get?
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/requ...62673/attach/5/FOI 0068 2016 CTC Offences.pdf £100, 3pts. Bargain.
On Loz's chart it states 'course available' I was told by the policeman that a 'course was not available' due to the heinous speed, have I been tricked into paying up?
I believe that the offering of a course is discretionary. Where the discretion is exercised, I am unsure. Depends upon whether the Chief Constable is having an extension done on his mansion, I guess.
If you have your licence number and NI number you can check your points, groups and the other stuff that used to be on the paper part here https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
I did have a perfectly clean licence as I have been so good for such a long time! I vaguely remember the policeman telling me something along the lines of- I wouldn't be offered a 'course' as I was just slightly over the threshold of the chance of it being offered.
I got offered a course when caught doing 49mph in a 40mph zone. An ex policeman told me (iirc) that the cut off point for a course was 40mph + 10% + 3mph, which was 47mph. I expected the points and was surprised to be offerd the option of the course (which I took)
Yeah, but I was only told this by one fella. I wouldn't take it as gospel. I was just slightly over this criteria, so maybe discretion was used. As you are quite a way over, maybe this is why the option wasn't offered to you.
I was once offered a course for 90 in a 70 (dual carriageway). 4 years ago. Like I said, it is down to what the Chief Constable wants - house extension, boat, sportscar, etc
I would have liked to have been offered the course, shame I wasn't , I'm always ready to learn new stuff, and at my age I'm very aware that I have got a few bad habits! Last time I was nicked on a bike was in the early 70's, riding a Bantam with no lights on the A24 near Box hill. I lived a charmed life regarding my licence and bikes, long may it continue.
Another 7mph and you could have been subject to a ban! Speed limit + 45%... http://www.drivingban.co.uk/drivingban/speedingoffences/drivingbanspeedingoffences.htm I think you did well!
Just been looking on the Sussex safer roads site. Who can attend a Speed Awareness Course? To be offered a Speed Awareness Course, a person must: Have committed a speeding offence. Not have been on a similar course within the last three years or have other similar prosecutions pending.
If you don't receive an offer in the post with your NIP you are not eligible for one. It's that simple really. IIRC you are way over the threshold they set. TBH £100 and three points sounds like you got off very lightly. I got a 14 day ban and a £450 fine some years back for doing 78 in a 60, so consider yourself lucky, eat some humble (or should that be mince) pie and enjoy the festive period.
I have already taken it on the chin @Topolino. First time I have been fined for many years so can live with the inconsequential fiscal loss. Shouldn't have been speeding in the first place. Slightly saddened that my clean licence has been sullied though. Just got my very first Nuke for a post, thanks Gazdoc.
