1199 1199s Panigale Rear Hangers

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by David Quarmby, Dec 24, 2017.

  1. Hello all,
I am new on here so need some advice, I recently took delivery of the afore mentioned bike 1199s 2013 model. I am not a great fan of the rear hangers so I have removed them via the 4 x allen key bolts.
The question is do I have to replace the bolts?
Also one of my mirror stems is loose (heard i may have to replace)?
The heat shields on the standard silencers are loose?
    Any ideas
    Seasons greetings to you all.
    Dave

  3. Welcome and congratulations on the new bike! As suggested by Andy... Some photos wouldn't go a miss, we like photo's on here ;)

As for your queries, I don't normally replace the rear peg hangers as the bikes are vibey and feel they'd only come loose / get lost anyway. I don't tend to ride in the rain if I can help it but if you plan on doing then plugging the holes to prevent corrosion may be an idea.

I've heard a few people mention the heat shields rattling but not had the issue myself to comment on a remedy for this... I'm sure others will chip in who have more knowledge than me on this but as a place to start, I would whip them off and see if there is anything obvious amis... I assume there will be a heat proof fibre washer behind them which may have disintegrated and allowing them to rattle?

Can't comment on the wobbly mirror either but I'm sure someone will offer some advice :upyeah:

  4. I'd simply insert a couple of rubber blanking plugs/grommets into the holes left behind, no need to replace the mounting bolts. You may find the internal joint in the mirror is worn. I am not sure if it can be tightened/adjusted without disassembling the whole mirror, but as you rightly point out, most end up having to be replaced. Fortunately many come up on the various forums and Ebay, so it's not hard to source one. As for the heat shields, you could always try packing the bolts out with the green fibre heat resistant washers Ducati often typically use, thereby taking up any slack and allowing the mounting bolts to bite down on the shields and prevent vibration. Hope this helps.
