my 22 year old about to purchase - any cons with this model ? 2.0’tdi blue motion 2011 63k tech GT 5 Door Worries me slightly as been lowered Any advice welcome
Golfs are brilliant cars, but full service history and mileage with cost would be a great place to start.
I have that model. Been a great car, now on 128k and runs perfect. Regular(10k) oil changes are a must. Cambelt and waterpump @100k . Done mine @80k. They seem to sit high so a 15mm suspension drop would probably benefit it.
I had a 2011 one of these, had 95,000 miles on it, I’m normally a bit squeamish of high mileage cars but must say it drove like it was a new car ! Probably having a full VAG service history helped.
My daughter is on her second Golf, her present one has 7,000 miles and one month after purchase it had a faulty sensor on the gear change which wouldn't alow her to remove the ignition key or lock the doors, on contacting the dealer as it was still under warranty she was told they couldn't get anyone to look at it until the following day, it sat outside her house overnight until 2 pm the following day unlocked with the keys in the ignition. She still loves the car though a little pissed off at the main dealer. Steve
My son is a car sales man at a vw dealership in Yorkshire, shout up if you want any help If you want an Audi, shout i can help
I’ve owned many VAG cars with that tdi engine, they are fairly robust and reliable. The cam belt change is always contentious on whether it’s the mileage or years before changing. Personally at that age, and for the sake of a couple of hundred quid I’d get them changed if not already done.
thanks for all the info folks I will check to see if cambelt done as 63k and 7 years old - says full service history but will check mileage etc Think it has had a new full ‘aftermarket’ exhaust How can you tell if chipped ?
If she gets anymore problems make sure she calls the AA The silver AA vans can carry out warranty repairs and clear faults have a mobile diagnostic on board
I would take it to a dealer for an overall check. Shouldn't cost a fortune(£50-100??) in the long therm this could save you a lot more. If seller doen't accept it, must be hide something..... If automatic I will certainly have the gearbox oil replaced..if DSG goes it can be very expensive to repair. I do not like the "tunned" cars, OK if been done by a very reputable company but not a fan of chip and full exhaust on a tdi engine. If one wants more power should buy a more poweful car straight away... Personaly, I would stay away from a chipped tdi engine. Just my 2p worth of...
Brake fluid and AC service due every 2 years. Most common faults are EGR valves which if it's had the emissions recall will be covered by VW. If it's been chipped etc VW can tell that by plugging into diagnostics.
