Hello All Just joined but not new to Ducati. I own a 2001 996s but it's now mostly consigned to the garage. Roads too busy (I'm too busy , I'm not as young as I used to be and I don't know many bikers, so I just don't get the chance to ride out with anyone. Anyway, I popped in Vindis Ducati in Cambridge on Saturday to look at the new Multistrada. Thinking about getting back into riding and also commuting between my offices in Ely, Cambs and Studham, Beds (A10, A14, A421, M1 and a couple of B Roads) which is a 75 mile commute. Want to reduce my journey time but also have fun on a quick but comfortable bike. Trying to decide on buying a new bike and I'm considering a Multistrada 1200s or the new 1260s. There seems to be quite a bit of negative opinion to the new 1260 from 1200 owners and I'm just wanting to get some further opinions on what route I should take Thanks all and Happy New Year Dean
2 bikes, 2 riding styles. The 1200 has a hooligan element that makes it very chuckable with sporty handling. The new 1260 with a slightly longer wheel base and lower down torque is more aimed at proper touring. From others first impressions the new 1260 is still a quick bike but you won’t be embarrassing Blades, R1s and S1000RRs in the twisty bits like you can with a 1200. Sounds like from your requirements, the 1260 would be ideal but get a demo ride to confirm that. Andy
Thanks Andy I rode a GS1200 a few years back (maybe 2012) and I didn't really like it, I'm assuming the 1200 or 1260 won't be anything like that? I have to admit though, I followed a GS a few weeks ago in my AMG and I was surprised at just how fast that bulky BMW was, hence my looking into the Multistrada now
Maybe consider the 939 supersport & bmw 1200rs as they should both excel at what you are describing as your commute.
I already own a 996s, so not looking for another sports bike but I also don't want to feel like I'm on board a boat, which is what a R1200GS felt like when I rode one a few years ago Want the comfort but also the fun on my commute
I`ve not yet ridden a 939 supersport but I think it is supersport in name only. A good friend has a BMW1200rs and that is a wonderful bike to ride and very comfortable with quite an upright riding position. Worth a try IMO but your money so yours is the opinion that counts. Best of luck with whatever you end up with.
