Tall Blokes; Multi 1200 Screen advice (again I know)

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Ape2Duc, Jan 3, 2013.

  1. Just had the bike out for the first ride and what a machine but I have one niggle

It's fitted with the DP touring screen, helmet is supposed to be the quietest in the world (Schuberth C3 Pro) and it is, when I'm stood up in clean air. I am 6'2, I have adjusted the screen on every position and it is just terrible, as soon as I lift above the screen or on the highest position crouch behind it then things are fine.

Am I right in my logic of thinking a really short screen is going to be the best option for me? I have done a search and it's as clear as mud  Have not got endless amounts of money to waste on screens although I do understand there are so many variables that can affect things.

Any advice or screen recommendations folks?

  2. I am same height as you, standard screen is awful. I have some aztec spacers, they push the screen out about an inch, the difference is night and day, i havent looked at aftermarket screens since, none of the buffeting and noise of the standard screen. The spacers even look ok too imo.

  3. Spacers :)

  4. Just weighing up the Options Dave, very close to giving the spacers a go, bought a C3 helmet due to it's claimed quietness and it really is amazingly quiet when in clean air, which is what has be thinking about a short screen....

  5. I am 6'2" as we'll. I have cut the original screen to make it as short as physically possible whilst still covering the sliding mechanism and mounted it on the Aztec spacers. I find this to be about the best but out of curiosity I recently fitted an MRA Varioscreen (not the X-Screen) and with this mounted on the spacers is quite good for the winter. If I duck just a a little bit it's almost silent with the wing angled at its steepest setting. To add more fuel to the flame I have also recently fitted the Perspex wings all the way from Oz and these too seem to add a little more protection in the chest area, I haven't tried them with the short screen yet, I'm waiting for the warmer weather.

  7. That sounds promising, just confirm thats the DP touring screen? Is the lid quiet when sat down too?

  8. Hi, is Givi screen a good option too? I think that is the tallest available..

  9. Fully agree on the quitness of the C3 when standing up in free air... :)

After 4 screen + spacers testing I finally opted for the Vstream tourer on 50% height settings

    1. has a great anti buffeting system
    2. allows you to look over it when it's drizzling/raining
    3. is the best combo silence / cover....
    4. doesn't look the barndoor..

    i still got a 20 22inch C Baylies in the box now...
    got the spacers as well...

i'm pritty big (wide) and 183cm so should be comparabel

  10. Dont waste your money, im 6'2 n av C3, there is NO CURE, ear plugs are your best option but then u carnt hear your music with the C3 system,
    Av tryed
    DP tourin screen
    Aztec spacers.
    perspex wings,
screen with the tiltin bit at top
    carbon PP shorty
plus all the above in various combos with NO great improvment
Shorty ok in summer but in winter the weathers full on in your chest,

  11. i think Nigel is right ... what i told seems ( for me) to be the best you can get it and it is substantially better as it will allow you to ride lid fully open till 65 mph ... but: the diff with standing up is still major especially above 80mph .. in have no clue as how to listen to music with the racket going on..
we've stopped using the intercom as the off/on switch is to itchy and once the wind goes in the mike, it whistless double... :(

  12. Surely there is a solution?! All I need is to get my helmet in to clean air and not the air coming off the screen/fairing, on a ride out today I found myself sitting on the pillion seat while cruising along and to be out of that noise was just bliss!

  13. I've found a solution that works for me.

Aztec spacers plus a CalSci (medium) screen - sourced from Heroblobs.

I'm 6' 1" with a C3. I wear earplugs always but I can hear music from my iPod/Zumo via the Schuberth comms system with the visor up at 60mph+ with this set up.

  14. The CalSci medium must be close to a standard screen no?

  15. It's quite a bit wider, especially at the bottom and also a little taller.

Makes an unbelievable difference for me. Before I had it, I was so frustrated with the wind noise I was thinking of changing the bike. Your spacers made a big difference but the screen transformed the bike.

  16. has anyone tried a 2013 bike for comparison, if there is a major improvement then it may be possible to modify a 13 screen to fit earlier bikes.

  17. Afraid not, it's mounted using 4 bolts instead of three, screen doesn't look massively different either

  18. I realise that they have gone to four fixings but it was more a question as to whether the new screen was an improvement or not, if its an improvement then the new shape should be adaptable for the three fixing (earlier bikes). I haven't as yet seen a new model close up must go to dealers and have a look see.
