And Then I Went Into A Tank Slapper.

  1. A bit of lock-wiring or a little cable tie holds them in place

  2. call me mr picky but i recon that pin ring is the wrong way around! if it was turned around then you cant just flick it off and out :)

  3. You could probably get away with the one on the wheel-nut side being longer. I have no idea where you would get a longer one from. A longer one on the chain side would foul the spigot on a paddock stand. Yours look the same as mine.

  4. You sound like my wife:eyes:

  5. Looks the same as mine. Weird that it has come undone.

  6. I had exactly the same on my multi.

Had to tighten by hand to get home but bloody scary thought.

  7. Oh really. Well, there you go I'm not alone.

So this could happen again. Perhaps why they have the 230Newtons tightening specification.

Scary but the bike does give you warnings. You just have to recognise them and heed them.

That, is why I posted about it.

I don't know about you guys but I'll be checking my nuts more often.

  8. Andy, I'll check that but I don't think it is. I don't know that it will actually fit the other way round.

And it's absolutely fine to be picky about something like this.

If anyone else knows 100% for sure please advise.

If these things are coming loose we need to be aware and more mindful of it.

  9. Glad the dealer has just fitted new clips.to mines after being in for a service.
I'd left them out after they were fouling the paddock stand

  10. When you look at the ring...ooh er, the tab parts are not flat they have a slight angle i prefer that angle to lean in and it puts the male part of the catch on the inside so it cant just ping out.

Who last had your rear wheel off?

  11. Maybe a R clip would go through both holes ? easier to fit and visually check.

  12. When it happened to me, it had been about 4 months after a change of rubber. I’d done many, many miles in that time (I did about 13k a year on that bike) and at all speeds and road types.

The only that made me pull over was a slight wobble from the rear. Luckily I felt it just before I got to the 60 limit country lanes where I usually pin it.

  13. How did that clip come loose? It isn't like there is any force on it and btw mine is the same size lol.

  14. Just checked mine and it looks fine - the nut is still where i left it on the factory torque rating!!
Still a bit of work with the pliers left the wire clip sticking further into the axle and I will add a cable tie coz paranoia is catching!

  15. Torque to specs. and mark a line with permanent marker on the nut and then a dot somewhere next to it.(or just extend the line) So it is very easy to spot if moving. Done it on all my bikes, in the last 10 years.
Also when I am removing and re-torque the nut it all the time ends exactly where the dot is or within 1-2mm.

  17. Whilst reading the original post I was convinced the issue was going to be caused by Sam putting GAS in the bike instead of unleaded..............:punch:

  18. I had a similar problem on my s4r just after having my wheels refurbished, the but came very loose yet the clip was still in place, ever since then I always put a small ty-rap on the clip & use green loctite every time I torque it up - not too much though or it's the mother & father of all nightmares to get off!! Literally a couple of drops is plenty.
Hope this helps, sounds like you had a lucky escape!

  19. A locking device that locks is certainly a good idea. I have 2 problems though Pete.
    1. I don't like R&G stuff. I usually find it heavy looking and often ugly. However if it keeps the wheel on it can only be a good thing.
    2. I won't be able to use my paddock stand. Now that is a problem.
