Hi guys I was just reading a thread about the hose recall and red that there is a possibility that this hose failure can cause you to leak oil into the lubricanting system. So I just went out to the bike a noted that my oil is leaking like paist . I haven’t changed the engine oil in a Ducati before but the ones I have done they ain’t this colour. Looks like this bikes going to go back to where it came from . Take a look at the pics ! Don’t look good to me !
This is 'mayonaise' caused by condensation. It doesn't mean all your oil is like this. The problem is caused by the oil not getting hot enough to boil condensation off. Ducatis tend to run cool on open roads, so are prone to it. Solution is to get the engine good and hot. It can help to remove the filler cap after a ride to allow steam to escape
Thanks for that ! I just came across a thread that explains it to me in great detail . I’m used to two strokes ! Mainly Lambretts and if you see that in your crankcase you've blown a drive side oil seal . So I got a bit panicky lol
cream on the filler is ok, but it looks bad in your sight glass to me. I would drain it and change the oil.
Looks worse than the normal 'mayo' due to not getting hot enough to me but that depends on journey type/length etc. Have you checked your coolant? If not low or contaminated then I'd change the oil and see how it goes.
I think your right Hughdg ! All of my trips over the past two weeks have been short . Back and forwards to work . It’s been very cold up north ! Just have to keep an eye on it cheers
The hose recall is only for DVT. Multis. It wouldn't cause any oil water mixing either.. That's a lot of emulsion. Have you checked your coolant levels? Radiator and expansion tank. Is that oil in sight glass above the cream? I'd get it nice and hot and get the oil dropped to see if it's water and oil or emulsion.
I'm not convinced thats even your oil level , and that it may just be condensate in the window. Liquid levels are normally flat across the top are they not ?? If this is the case, run the bike until the fans kick in and the motor is proper hot, then let it cool with oil cap off and something like a piece of tissue over the top, just to stop crap getting in. Repeat till condensate gone Changing the oil is recommended but does not clear the condensate, I had this on my 14, plate bike and the only way I got rid of the condensate was running up till hot a few times (or just leave running if you have the time to wait around ?)
