Possible Multistrada 1200s Touring D'air- Honest Advice

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by madasadad, Jan 21, 2018.

  1. Im considering trading my 2017 Kawasaki Z1000SX for a Mid 2016 Multistrada 1200s Touring D'air, that is coming with a D'air jacket! The bike will come with 1 years warranty for piece of mind, however i plan to keep it for longer but am concerned about reliability. My bikes spend 75% of their time outside under cover, but have read that electrical corrosion among others seems to be potential issues. A years warranty from warranty direct is almost £700 which would indicate that potential problems are both expensive and highly likely once a bike is out of warranty/ over 10k miles. I love the Multistrada and the skyhook suspension, but am concerned that I may be moving into bottomless pocket territory. What are the most common problems encountered either in or out of warranty. Your thought an biased guidance are most appreciated!

  2. Welcome Dave.

Multi's are no different from any other modern bike. You get great ones. You get good ones. And like any other marque, you get rubbish ones. The latter tends to be very much in the minority, but unfortunately, forums being forums, you will only hear the stories about the rubbish ones.

  4. Welcome......are you getting it from a Ducati dealer?

If so speak to them about EverRed extended warranty, you may qualify and it's far better value than third party warranties.

  5. Only thing I’d say that every multi suffers from is awful corrosion on the casings. Some worse than others but pretty bad regardless. If being kept outside, you’ll get it.

Doesn’t affect the performance at all but looks unsightly. Warranty won’t cover it but you could always have them removed and painted properly.

  6. Thanks Folks, yes I’m buying from a dealer and will talk to him on Monday about the extended warranty. Will liberal and frequent coatings of acf50 keep the corrosion at bay?

  7. Welcome along, from a 3 time Multi owner who's had very few issues :upyeah:

  9. Hello & Welcome from a 2016 dvt over (soon to be 1260s) not had any trouble with mine, lives in the garage but not heated, so when it’s damp it stays damp for days, it’s never not started but I do keep it on a battery optimiser as the tracker uses battery, I’m assuming you’ll have a tracker fitted?

  10. How many miles have you covered?

  11. 7k
