So one of the things that the latest Monster 1200R has over the 1200S that bothered me was the Ohlins Steering Damper. Scoured the internet for best deal and finally bought one online off of an Italian stockist OMNIA RACING SRL, FABRIZIO BERTOLLINI, VIA SALUTE, 19 Parco Quadrifoglio, 80055 PORTICI, NA, Italia. They have an ebay store. Total cost was £469.00 inc very fast free P&P and no vat was payable when it was delivered! I am happy with the results although there was a bit of faffing when it came to installation as some of the mounting parts didn't quite line up with the existing bolt holes on the bike so a bit of drilling out / enlargement of bolt holes was necessary. They sent me fitting kit for the previous model but anyone who's a little bit handy would be able to adapt and modify. See Before and After Pics. Any feedback / questions welcome.
You don't pay VAT from another EU State, the price should include local Tax - if it didn't then you got away without stating a UK VAT number. But I guess you paid local VAT looking at the price. Looks neat - what colour you going to paint the Car, I see it's still in primer too
Well I am not VAT expert but sometimes I get asked to pay duty on stuff from overseas before the courier will deliver the item and so relieved having not to on this occasion although you may be right that I paid local tax. I guess its dependent on the country of origin? And as for the car (& the bike,) the only problem I have with the colour is all the Primer / when you getting it painted jokes all the time Good job I've thick skin !!
Yes, all EU is no VAT to pay as it is charged already in the despatching country (what happens after Brexit is another story). And don't worry about the car and bike - you'll get them done one day when you have chosen a colour
Hi Cozmo. I'm just curious, What made you decide to fit the damper. Was it bad handling or just the fact that the "R" comes with one. Reason I ask is I've got a 2017 1200S and ride hard and it handles really sweet. I have not felt the need for a damper. The geometry on the "R" is different from the "S" with differing rake angle on the forks and a different rear end height which may be the reason the "R" comes with a damper.
Hi Squidger. I've no complaints re handling at all, its a case of me being bored and spending too much time on tinternet and buying stuff I dont really need ;-D Loving the new trick look though and time will tell whether I feel any difference in the handling
