Company bike..?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by figaro, Jan 10, 2013.

  1. I'm sure we've had this conversation before, but what connotations are there for putting a bike through the company books? Not me, sadly, my brother's thinking about buying a Panigale through his company, but seems to think getting it insured as a company vehicle will be prohibitively expensive. Anyone got experience..?

(If it comes off I'll talk him into giving me a company loan to buy his 1098S off him:wink:)

  2. I run my bike through my company, 40% tax loss, i have normal insurance but class 1 business use.

  3. So he can insure it privately but just add business use?

  4. The 'Company Bike' is usually part of the training, HR or Marketing department where I've been employed before. I don't think they particularly insured her, but given the low risk involved I think she was pretty cheap! :p

  8. He'll be fine:I've had 4 brand new bikes on my firm, claimed back all the VAT,all the clothing/rrunning costs etc etc.Had VAT inspections since no issues.Only thing is,it has to be company use only...ahem....I only use mine for meetings and parts delivery....

  9. And they are always done at the weekend :upyeah:

  10. Bike comes under plant and equipment, i claim eveything including a new helmet every year and new leathers boots etc as it is classed as safety equipment. I have just had another VAT inspection and is no problems. I am not in the motor trade but in recruitment.

are you in an area of work that a bike could be used in your working day?, being an engineer with a van, would love to get a bike and claim all my vat back and write the cost of the bike off as " plant and equipment" cant think my accountant would ware it though

  17. ha ha, bet that killed you, was talking to an engineer from swanley kent the other day who supplyed all the fridge for a shop in the olympic stadium, and it broke down lol, had to go fix using the tube etc as no van allowed, lucky it was something silly, if it was me it would have been a comp or something!

  18. We had to remove a 4ft diameter ventilation fan from one of the shooting galleries mid-Olympics. That was fun...
