Hi everyone. Another daft question I'm afraid. I'm looking at getting a carbon cover for the exhaust to replace the stock one on the 848 when I collect it. (I'm meaning the cover at the right hand side footrest) I can't help thinking the standard one looks a wee bit cheap and was thinking of going for a carbon one instead. I see the official Ducati one is about £130 RRP which is a bit steep. I might speak to the dealer and see if they can do a deal on one but I'd guess that it would still be around the £100 mark at best. Can anyone recommend me an alternative to the Ducati one please? And does anybody have any pics of the different options that are out there? Would really appreciate any info. Cheers. Andy
First thing i did when i got my 848 was bin that stupid "heat shield" all it did was cook more of your bloody leg! Got one of ebay for about 40-50 quid. Think it was from the guy thats on this forum. Bloody nice quality at a fraction of the cost of the dp stuff
CARBON FIBRE EXHAUST VALVE GUARD - Ducati 848 1098 1198 | eBay Same as DP stuff i got the small rear hugger think it comes from the same factory Richie
Hey, thanks for that. I was just trawling about in eBay when you posted that. Looks pretty good and it's less than half the price of the DP one. Can't go too far wrong with that I guess. I've PM'd arthurbikemad anyway and will see what happens. Cheers. Andy
While your looking about.....get yourself some loctite or you'll loose the bolts that hold the tea tray on.
 Yip, I've heard this from a lot of folk. I have a tube in the shed but by the sound of it I'm going to need a lot more! On that subject, I was advised buy a guy that did some spannering for an 848 race bike to loctite "everything" so had planned to spend a while one (or more!) evening after I get the bike doing this. What should I start with? Which fasteners are the most prone to vibrating out? Andy
I've only ever lost one. And that was on the heat sheild. I check them regularly and can't say I've found any loose.
Yip, I agree it's a reasonable price too. I hadn't planned to buy just yet but I'm going to see if I can get the cash together for it.
Got mine from paul at carbon king, nice guy. If you hold your horses they come up on auction. I managed to get one for under £30 .
I'm not really in a rush as I don't get the bike until 1st March so I have time to figure it out. I want to buy the one from arthurbikemad but can't make my mind up whether I should just go for a £40 eBay one and save the extra cash for something else. Like heel plates. I prefer the idea of getting the official one but can't help feeling it's just a case of it being over-priced. Am I really going to notice the difference between the DP one and an eBay one once it's fitted? I'm probably better to wait until I have the bike home to then see what I want to do. Maybe patience is best!
The other forum members are happy with the ebay one mate... I only have DP carbon on my bike but thats just me.. (seen too many wet lay poor moulded crap from UK and eBay sellers) My Termi headers are here this week, once they arrive and im happy with them I will put the gaurd up on eBay with the ECU and other parts im outing. Its no problem on my part it will sell no matter what people say on here some of us like "propper" carbon parts from Ducati etc. If you want me to keep it for you just ask, you can have the upper header cover free..
