Ive a 1299S with a full Akrapovic exhaust. I’m looking to get the fuelling sorted. What companies would people recommend around the North London, Home Counties area?
No. There are several after market options of which a PC is only one. Gizmos like the PC don’t require the operator to be at a competency level of the a person who can reprogramme your OE ecu like CJS or Wilf at Moto Rapido to name two. It is also still a compromise. Remapping is not cheap but it is also not a lot more expensive than setting up a PC. Andy
Rapidbike tuning module it a better version of PC, and people like Rexxer (as I mentioned) can map your ECU.
One advantage of a pc is that you can simply remove it if you want to return your bike to standard trim for whatever reason
Same with the Rapidbike. The advantage of Rapidbike being that you can install/remove it yourself and it is self mapping to your bike and your modifications.
Well they would say all that wouldn’t they? How about hard documented comparisons by a reputable third party? Remap v pc v rapidbike with dyno readouts would be useful. Not wishing to sound too cynical but can’t help being a tad sceptical...
Plenty of unbiased info out there in google land. I’m not trying to sell it, just providing options. The problem with ECU tuning is that you need to tell your dealer so they do not run the software updates at services and overwrite your map. The PC is an external item that needs mapping to set properly. It adds some weight, but won’t be overwritten by Ducati. However, it is a bit old hat these days. Rapid bike also adds a bit of weight, however doesn’t need dyno time and can be removed/resold at any point you fancy. Could even be moved to a new bike with a new harness... I can’t vouch for the auto tuning, but plenty of evidence out there that it works. Like I say, I’m offering options for people to research and make their own minds up....
Interesting stuff. I’ve had one company tell me the best option is a PC as “to alter the ECU is a real pain, takes ages and gives limited results” Next company told me “PC option is very limited and you can do much more by working on the ECU” From a cost point of view, the ECU flash is cheaper, roughly £300 + vat, pc is 500 inc vat. Both included dyno time to set up.
I had my original 1199s flashed by http://www.cjsracing.co.uk/dyno_ecu_reprogramming.htm absolutely transformed the bike.
I use Tuneboy on my 1199s which updates the ECU with up to 3 trims/maps that you can select - ie with baffles, without baffles etc. also when serviced, just load the std map.. easy .. i also have the downshift blipper ;-) Biggest issue i have is trying to find a dyno operator that will/can use the Tuenboy software just to create the trim maps ( i can load them myself ) as Chris x-bike as no longer does the mapping Std it come swith trims for terms/akra full/slipon and with or without baffles - so a good place to start - but finer tuning does need a dyno-run..
Thanks for the recommendation Jolley! DWR (Aylesbury) did their work today and the results are: As it came into DWR: 179.2 bhp, 98.6 ft/lbs Once they’d done their work: 209.5 bhp, 104.2 ft/lbs Can’t recommend DWR enough after that! Massive improvement.
