Smart Speed Cameras

  1. The new double box cameras mounted off to the LHS at various locations on the M42 do appear to be active, even when the variable speed limit signs are off. I saw one flash as white-van-man went haring down the outside lane of the M6/M42 combo southbound at 0530 a couple of weeks ago. These cameras are average speed and the distance between them is large (two or three miles on the M42). I think (but am not sure) that the Gatsos on the gantries are no longer working. There are wires hanging off on several of them and people know where they are. Also, they resurfaced a lot of the M42 around Birmingham and they haven't bothered to reprint the distance lines in a lot of locations. (If you can see cameras on the other carriageway as you approach a gantry, there will be cameras on your side.)

  2. I made my own

  3. They have been active certainly in the London Homecounties area for a year now.

  6. Saw a number of camera flashes in the variable speed zones on the M25 in both directions when I drove back from Gatwick a couple of weeks ago late at night. Andy

  7. I wonder if these police super rich or elitists convoys will incur fines, because they are continually breaking the law.

  8. Cops don't get the money from speeding fines. A few years ago revenue did go back to "safety camera partnerships" but austerity put an end to that
The money now goes into the governments coffers
The money is now used in all walks of life in the form of grants
The idea of turning M1 cameras on permanently I believe was the idea of the commissioner for Bedfordshire in the hope he would get all the money to make up for a big cut in the force budget. None of the money would go to him so I don't think he is that interested
The police have to pay people to operate them and process the fines but don't get the money raised
I know in the area I live that the number of vans out and about has reduced quite dramatically

  9. The law is 70. Doing 71 and thinking that's OK is like sending a quick text. Or just doing a bit of thieving, not properly thieving, not of people, just of big companies......

  10. No where near the same imo, what about if your speedo is slightly inaccurate and there is no leeway?

  11. And don’t forget that the doppler radar or whatever it is that measures your speed has accuracy tolerances. One reason why the rozzers have to allow a bit of leeway. Andy

  12. I'm having a nervous couple of weeks as i'm pretty sure i was speeding down the m6 + m42 last weekend.... silly me

  13. "Speed limit". Not minimum. Not an exact target. Limit. If your worried about your speedo drive at 65mph.

Can get a little lee-way if I'm just a bit over the drink drive limit?

  14. :eyes:

    Avoid all motorways.

  15. So even though the current 70 limit was bought in when folk were still driving round in Ford Anglia's, you think 65 or 70 is acceptable, and you believe speed kills?

  16. Can do. Not always. Cars may have better brakes but not sure the average motorists have better reactions or pay better attention to the road though.

Also far less cars on the road then.

I've actually found recently that driving at 60 on cruise control with the trailer on the back I'm getting to my destination far less stressed.

  17. Well in that case, we should lower all speed limits cause it suits you.... :upyeah:
    Are you a cop?? :D

  18. No speed limits have changed have they?

No,not a cop? Just a proud Honda owner.
