That's the car I was alluding to, the 037. 16v, volumextric compressor with heads, manifolds etc by Abarth and based on the Beta Monte Carlo but with a tubular subframe at the rear, speedline wheels etc. One of the most beautiful cars ever built and like the 955 AMA bike I owned at a similar time, one of the dumbest moves I ever made in selling it. If only we could do it all again!
If you get a chance to watch the feature on the Grand Tour about the Audi Quattro v Lancia battle for the 1983 ? World championship take a look. Not a fan of Clarkson but the feature is well put together. https://carbuzz.com/news/the-grand-tour-needs-more-films-like-clarkson-s-epic-lancia-037-tribute
That's about all I have left of it too, somewhere in the barn. I think I may also somewhere have a photo of the ultimate beneficiary of it's sale with her tits out hanging out of the window of it whilst crossing a north African desert rally stage. If I scan and post it, would that count as revenge porn or just happy reminiscence?
A guy randomly appeared at my house one day with a yellow BMW M3, fitted with a towbar and a bike trailer. He'd heard from John Hackett (still just making JHP exhausts and stuff then I think) that I had imported one and was determined to buy it so that was the end of that little adventure. I hadn't even ridden it and as I was moving back overseas it seemed like a good idea at the time!
Hat off. Usually when people say things like that they mean they had an early Delta 1500 or a Y10... I wish I could say I'd had one. Lovely stuff.
Yep 037 was the only car that could bring the fight to the Quattro. Even Lancia knew 2WD was over though, hence the grenade-like (sadly literally) S4. Walkers in Northallerton had one a while back... didn't get a chance to see it.
It's too much money for me as a track bike, but with a C of C it will be on the road with a day time MOT if at all possible - need to look into it unless someone knows? The bike has never been registered.
That will be one cool road bike Hexie. But don't let it leave your sight with no ignition barrel, immobiliser and steering lock. Carry a Doberman around with you
