Honda Cars

  1. Where its built isn't really the issue. It's the EU law makers, with all the stringent crash testing etc which has killed off cars like the olde type R's.

unless you by a GT3 that is.

  2. Agree 100%.

I love owning Hondas but the latest offerings are pretty hopeless I'm afraid.
We've had a Civic (old style, a couple of styles back), dead reliable; 2.0 Prelude, the Vtec 4 wheel steer job, lovely car; S2000, what a looker that was; Jazz, talk about reliable, easy to drive and park etc, the wife uses it as a shopping trolley now but the downside is most cars behind think you're a old guy and do their best to get past no matter what speed you're going!
Along the way we tried the Civic Type R and couldn't live with the need to rev the t**ts off it and keep changing down to progress and the suspension was just dreadful.

However, I wanted something with more power and still a hatchback for myself and tried the latest 2012/2013 Civic. Apart from its wierd looks it was no joy to drive and don't mention the rear view for reversing into parking spaces, they had to fit a reversing camera to give you a bit of a chance. Anyway I went to a BMW 1 series with a 2.0 diesel engine. It's a great drivers car, real world economy in the 50's mpg and masses of engine punch. Sorry Honda.

As I understand it, the Civic in the USA is a totally differently styled car, what's that all about?

    Ah well.

  3. That shape of civic will continue to run in exactly the same way until the end of time. Epic reliability.

  4. Indeed, my accord is swindon built, and the build quality is incredible.

The NSX had two issues, the badge, and it was under powered compared to the cars it was aimed at. In isolation its a superb car.

  5. The uk at the moment is one of the top car manufacturers in the world. This is mainly due to the demand for British marques in china, but also the Toyota plant in derby is doing well, and so is Nissan in Sunderland.

apparently a range rover evoque rolls off the production line every 70 seconds!

  6. Thats right. And if Honda hadn't lost their way they could be a part of the UK success. They need to bring some of their old designers and engineers out of retirement and get them to make exciting cars alongside the ecomentalist ones they are so focussed on now.

  7. I've always rated Honda very highly, and with some careful marketing they could aim right at BMW and Audi. Their cars have always been very well engineered, but their marketing seems to be lacking.

  18. Couldn't agree more. How does a massive corporation like that fail to spot the downward slope. Even the bikes are getting a bit like that. Fireblade and Pan excepted.
