1299 1299 Range

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by cookster, Feb 7, 2018.

  1. Guys this may sound like a stupid question but is there actually a 1299r or was it just the base ,s, sl and fe models cheers.

  2. There were 2 x 1199R's Homologation models as that was the capacity allowed in racing - Gen 1 & Gen 2 so no 1299R no :)

  6. So it doesn't matter that it's the official designation for it cos some guy reckons it's just marketing bollocks

  8. Correct - they added the R late in the program, it's not an holomogation special which is what all the Superbike R's were and what the designation was meant to be.
It's like a Monster with an R in its title - marketing :yum they got you

  9. Yeah yeah whatever, and for the record there was only one 1199R not two, the others a Panigale R :)

  10. The FE is most definitely a 1299 ‘R’ -

It has a Panigale 1199R chassis (frame, geometry, swing arm, suspension, brakes and wheels)

An SL 2 motor, bar the sand cast engine casings (Alloy on the FE) and aluminium cylinder head liners (steel on the FE)

And it’s also named so in the model line up, on the logbook, in the insurance docs and owners manual.

The only difference is it’s not homologated as all ‘R’ model bikes generally are for racing purposes, but then neither is an SL 2....

But it is still very much an ‘R’ :upyeah:;)

  13. Facts is facts and the proof of the pudding as they say is always in the eating... and the FE goes as good, if not (dare I say it) ‘better’ than any R :p:cool:

  14. Is that a fact

  15. Yup! The spec speaks for itself and I would confidently wager a gentleman’s agreement on it...;)

    It’s lighter...
    Turns & stops quicker...
    Is more powerful...
    And faster...

And it certainly feels so against the best R model of them all the 1098R... not by a huge life changing amount, but right up there none the less, and with all the electronic goodness is much easier to ride fast than the 1098R too :)

  16. I was going to buy one eventually. Does that mean I'm being conned by the guys in sharp suits and should save my pennies?

When is an 'R' not an 'R'? When it's an FE, SL, SP, SPS, Evo, S, RR, MHR,? Anybody would think that Ducati have a history of charging a premium for a few trinkets added to a bike and proceeding to empty customer's pockets at a rate of knots. o_O Surely not. :eyes:
