Relying on the link to Bontempi to inflate, sorry, add value to the price. The bikes were £100k for the teams to buy at the time so I can see why people think this should be reflected in the second hand value. If the atribution to Bontempi and the bike’s history since then is fully documented, it’s a bit of racing memorabilia, if you are into that. As a bike to ride ? It would need to be recommissioned after standing for 17 years and whilst I loved mine, there are much better and cheaper Ducatis to buy and maintain out there. Andy
Even by Sheffield’s standards those prices have surely got to be aspirational. Neither have a GP7 exhaust, only the half system, the advert for the first one states the mileage to be 1200 but the photo of the speedo shows over 2000 and I would also need to know what numbers they are. The early ones were plagued with throttle body and piston problems but hey, if you can get that sort of price, good luck to you. Andy
Hi Andy These are later model Desmosedici’s, so none of the problems as there was occasionally with some of the earlier models. The first Desmo Speedo is shown as KLM’s the mileage is stated on the advert converted over. Prices are high for these now and getting harder to source good low mileage examples. Both very nice bikes though.
The prices are certainly high in those adverts, yes. The actual values for D16s are somewhat different in my experience, with the normal going rate seeming to be circa 40k, but I understand you’ve got to make a living.
Thanks for explaining the mileage. I should have spotted it but my poor old eyes missed it. No doubt they are nice bikes but we facilitated the sale of a customer’s bike before christmas and you could by a V4 Speciale with the change from what you are asking and what he got. As I said, if you can get that price, good luck to you. I will pass on your eBay advert to two customers who I know are looking but neither are looking to spend that sort of money. Andy
The "half" (race) exhaust was supplied with the bike and is just the silencer box. The exhaust system stays the same. You might get an ECU, I'd have to look in my big box of bits to see what I have for mine. They should all have the "half" (race) exhaust anyway. The GP7 exhaust was extra and came with the full Ti system, cans, seat unit and belly pan.
When you described it as a "half system" I wasn't sure if you knew what it was. I'll crawl back under my rock now Andy.
Ever since the 748R came with the 50mm end cans and 45/50mm mid pipe, the term “half system” seemed to be coined to describe anything other than a full system. From memory that included the US market 1098R that came with “for race only” end cans like the D16RR and of course some of the Panigales but I can’t remember which one came with just cans and which had headers as well. If I came across stroppy, I apologise Andy
