Does anyone have the stock settings for the forks and rear shock in terms of rear linkage length and fork rings showing at the front ? I have the manual so have the other settings it doesn't have a standard tail tidy so am looking at measurements other than base on number plate thanks
Further to the above can anyone please just have a look at their 1198s and tell me how many rings are showing on the forks above the yokes please? Thanks
I was also looking for this info for my 1198 standard model. The settings are in the manual for the damping adjusters but not for ride height. My 1198 is showing 5 lines which I now know is 2 too many (standard is 3) on the front forks through the yokes. The main problem is getting the rear setting either from the floor to the number plate hanger or some other fixed point. My question caused no end of arguing but got the final measurement as 615mm from the floor to the bottom of the plate hanger (not the plate itself), this is H in the manual. Obviously the rear wheel eccentric adjuster can also make a difference but from standard they are set in the bottom of the circle. HTH.
My forks appear to be set standard (though the previous owner said he had dropped thema little) however I know the rear rod has been adjusted longer - I am told by one turn full turn to make it longer Problem I have is that there is now no number plate hanger! Have put on an evotech tail tidy so cant use that measurement I am looking for as 'base' as I can get to before I start adjusting Can you please measure the adjusting rod length between the eyes - I am assuming the rear ride height geometry will be the same between the standard and S As you say the standard damping settings are in the manual its the height I am after Thanks
Not sure the rod will be an accurate way, as it depends where the eccentric is in its arc, but sure Andy B will be along soon to correct me... ;-) Imho only real way is to measure the height over the centre of the rear wheel, I normally choose a point on the subframe, little mark and use that
In Technical help, 28/9/12, there's a thread on this subject which may help. (1198 ride height, what is standard). As it says there I've got a bog standard one, never tuned, tweaked or touched other than to check the suspension settings were as Ducati intended (they were!). I have still the standard number plate fitting on, but if you can think of another point we could use ill be happy to measure. Maybe from the pillion mounting holes to the deck? My pillion pegs aren't on but ill stick them back on if that helps. Ian.
Thanks guys Read the above thread - didnt realise was such an emotive subject! I understand that ride height is a composite of lots of things Want to put the rod back to standard and then to sort the other stuff as well - including suspension settings Will the geo be the same on an 848? I guess so?
Just checked, it gives all preload, rebound and comp' settings for 1198 and 1198sp, if thats any good?
Thanks - I have the manual with the standard settings for those but its specifically the rod adjustment I am after to return that to standard to provide me with a basis to then reset the suspension to standard then start to play about
The 1098/1198 was lower than the 848's....Ducati raised the rear and put a narrower rear tyre on the 848's to make them turn quicker. The 1098/1198 was more bias towards high speed stability.
The rod adjustment are all the same and as someone said they are for fine adjustment, the 175mm was a starting point which may help Loverobot, so how much lower is a 1098/1198 that a 848 this will then give us the right ride high ? Richie
The adjuster barrels are available in different lengths, although the stock 1098s adjusters were all the same as standard. IIRC the standard 1098 tie rod was 10mm shorter than the standard tie rod on the 848's, but I'm not sure how much that affected the overall height after the linkage. I have a 1098s adjuster on mine and it was around that amount, I had to extend it to match the original length of my tie rod, as a starting point. Bearing in mind the ride height will change every time you adjust the chain. Google it or look on Dan Kyles website, I'm sure all the information is on there.
Have looked all other the tinterweb and cant find any measurement for the actual rod length eye to eye A visit to Duc Leeds with some calipers is on the cards for tomorrow - !
LB - I still think that is because its an irrelevant measure; wheelbase and rear ride height are the important ones
Right, to do it correctly (therefore right) you need a ride height tool. This mount in frma holes and extends horizontally above the rear axle. This is used as fixed datum point for the ride height measurement. Set it (not sure of the measurement on a 10/1198) then eahctime you adjust the chain you have to re-check and set back to the desired measurement. Using bit of fixed bodywork is a work around thats all. Tail tidies, number plated, footrest hangers, exhaust mounts etc can be utlised, but you should check after each adjustment to the chain.
