So, I do't really understand sports that have balls. Except mans number 1 recreation, clearly. But golf - what the hell is it for? I can only think that it has been designed to keep the most dull portion of the populous together in one place. Even flicking bogies has more of a point. Everything about golf is dull. Especially the commentators. BTW, stuck at the in-laws. Father in-law insists on watching both cricket and golf when it's on. Mother in-law is no help either.
Both sports are so that those who know to do them can feel superior to those that don't. Where else will you find bogies, albatrosses and par (what a stupid word!), doesn't cricket have that other famously stupid word googlies. Proves your point really.
Golf is brilliant! My darling wife loves the game, and plays most days, so I can ride my bikes! Downside is I know more about golf than any non-player I know ;-)
Nowt wrong with golf, I used to play a lot. And I spent 6 months working on Peter Alliss' house years back, during which time my handicap went from 24 to 14; he's a very nice man indeed. My old man was a scratch golfer; we had a round of golf with Lee Trevino and Ian Woosnam and the old man whupped the pair of 'em Then I decided it was a stupid game and quit. Haven't played for twenty years.
Anything using round balls is a game and not a sport. Was it Hemingway who said (in the '30s I suppose) that the only sports were mountain climbing, bull fighting and motor racing as you stood a good chance of getting killed while doing them
Ah well, best take up mountain climbing them, cause the other two are being sanitized out of existence............
I've just looked up golf on wikipedia. It's a game played by men with small balls.....apparently!
Guess he would add a few extreme sports onto that list nowadays. But cant see golf or cricket being included
Cricket is the most tedious sport of all. Only the english could invent a game that takes a week to play and means they win if it rains...
I remember years ago when I use to do clay pigeon shooting when we were bored at practice we would shoot golf balls, they go a really long way. It made us laugh a lot, you can see I was brought up in the country can't you, we find very simple things amusing.
What diameter were these golf balls?.........Or did you just pretend the clays had gone a long way? Yep......I wasn't brought up in the country, but have done a helluva lot of shooting........It really amazes me how big a golf ball litter can be, when you stumble across one of their burrows......Vermin apparently.... AL
