Envy Bike Lift (+ Abba & Bursig Lift Stands)

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by t965m, Apr 9, 2012.

  1. I'm thinking of getting one of these for the MTS so I can remove the centre stand and move the bike to a better space in the garage. Anyone got one, any good?

I saw it demoed at the the B'ham bike show and it looked really good - but all demo's look good 

  2. Mmmmm looks quite good. Do you need to bolt an adaptor / pick up point on to a Ducati?

  3. No. There is an adapter for each bike and that fits on the lift not the bike. There are some vids on You Tube.

  4. Like the idea of being able to pick the bike up, and store it "flat" against the "width" garage wall, will make getting the car in and out easier.

  5. I was thinking about getting one and tried it myself at the bike show. My observations were that the bike has to be upright when the stand is engaged, not on the sidestand. This I thought could lead to a topple over away from you as you will be holding the hadlebar in one hand a sliding the stand into the bike with the other, and in that position if it starts to go then there will be no saving it. They wouldm't let me roll the bike around on the stand either so I couldn't gauge how stable it is once elevated.

  6. Just had a look, on YouTube, at the official promo ad. The stand itself looks awesome but the ad is sh1te!!

Probably not right, I've just bought the Bursig Stand, a few more bucks but top notch quality - I imagine that the Envy will have to have the same system (but I don't know for sure).
The top rear engine mount is the point that the bike's weight is taken through by the stand, the lower mounting point (the swingarm bolt) is used just to steady the bike (stop rotation round the top mount point). The bikes frame is alloy so if any mounting system were to bear weight directly to the hole/recess in the frame there would be damage done.
So, with the Bursig anyway, you have to pull the top engine mount Allan bolt (6) from the left of the bike, reinsert from the right side and attach a steel insert that the actual stand fitting slides into. That may be clearer watching the instruction video below (not an MTS1200 )

I might get time to take some photos later if anyone's interested.

  8. How much Andy inc. P&P if you don't mind me asking....

  9. Thanks Andy. I'm a wee bit confused now as there was no indication about removing and repositioning mentioned.

I can't run that You Tube link, it may be because I'm using an iPad.

I'll let you know what needs to be done when it arrives.

  10. I did a deal with Sebastian Bursig but the retail price is €419 + €36 delivery - quite an investment but it'll last longer than you or I, can be used with different bikes by use of a different adapter plate and should you ever no longer need it will sell for decent money. I did a fair bit of research, couldn't find much talk of the Envy but stacks of praise for the Bursig and as I understand it Bursig were the first to develop this kind of stand.
Ducati Glasgow are currently the sole UK importer.

Haven't had time to take any photos today......will post tomorrow.

EDIT: Sorry missed your post t965m
Will be good to do some comparisons between the two
(ps: no + sign by your join date.....you need to add your location, bike details etc to your profile? See: http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/your-profile-add-you-bike-details-now-;-510)

  11. Just found the instructions online. You are quite correct Andy, you do need to remove the lug and put it in from the other side - hopefully ill be able to get adult supervision to sort it out :)

  12. That's weird about the bike details etc as I did it when I signed up. I'll re-check it on my laptop.

  13. A closer look at the Bursig Stand as promised.....just a couple of shots, I've posted a whole bunch more here: MTS1200 Paddock, Race & Lift Stands

    The Bursig Side Lift Stand
    [IMG]

....the bike adapter plate set up for the Multistrada 1200 (arrives pre-adjusted, although mine needed a small tweak of one of the adjuster rods as the riders footrest was touching the lift post)

...the upper rear engine mount bolt removed and the Bursig frame insert/slider
    [IMG]

...and the bike on the stand, easy to use, stable and the bike could even be moved on the stand across my poorly finished (unsmooth.....rippled!) garage floor.
.....I need to take a shot from lower down, both wheels are around two inches off the ground :)

  14. Just one small criticism only, the instructions that come with the Bursig stand leave a little to be desired (for someone as pedantic as me especially! lol)
    1) German / English translation has been done poorly so you get the occasional terms/phrases that just make no sense
    2) The 'generic' instructions apply to the MTS1200 i.e. the written equivalent of the instruction video I posted earlier - I would prefer to see bike specific instructions regardless
I've passed this feedback to Bursig........I'll be putting together MTS1200 specific instructions with additional advice shortly (should pretty much apply to any similar lift stand e.g. the Envy;-)

  15. Received the lift today. Instructions aren't great and half the printing was missing, which was a shame. Not tried to put it together yet as I think it will take a wee bit of concentration.

Yes I do need to fit the lug by pulling out and fitting the pin from the other side. Maybe I'll wait until the weekend when/if it gets above freezing :)

I defo need the space in the garage - the MTS will be for Dry days, High days and holidays, so I need to get to the Hyper :)

  16. if you phone them about the instructions.....tell them they need to sort the missing pics here also:
    Envy Motorbike Lift | Technical

Take some photos please, as is, straight out the box and then assembled as and when.....thanks
The Bursig arrived assembled and set up for the Mutley bar having to fit the 4 leg extensions with the wheels on.

  17. Had a go at putting it together on Thursday evening. Turns out I had the wrong 'Pin' on the bit that connects with the bike - spoke to Nigel at Envy whose an extremely nice and helpful bloke. Sending me one out ASAP and that I should give him a ring if I need any help.

Construction looks good and it's very similar to the one Andy has posted pics of. Hopefully once the new bit arrives I'll get it sorted and post pics.

  18. Did you take photos before assembling i.e. as it came out the box? I was hoping for a full start to finish comparison with the Bursig ;-)

I said before I had one small criticism of the Bursig....make that two:
Second, this is something that probably bugs me more than it would most people (I get a bit OCD with some bike stuff! lol), the frame insert/slider part that fixes to the engine mount bolt. I just hate the way it looks stuck out the side of the frame.......some sort of custom cap/cover is needed.

Obviously it could be removed when not in use but it'd be a pain having to refit every time you want to stick the bike on the stand and possibly there could be an issue with the engine bolt being repeatedly undone/done up? Bursig advise that it should remain in place.

I've email Bursig to see if they might be persuaded to design and manufacture a cap.

  19. I was following this thread with interest Andy
But that was my concern too.. wasnt sure how that would look as a permenant fix on the bike..?
If they dont make a cover, you could perhaps get it anodised Black, that might take your eye of it to some degree....?

  20. That would look a lot better if it was black but me being me I'd still have to get some form of cap or cover.......it'll have to be something made for the job as the hole in the frame (and so the Bursig insert) isn't square to the surface of the frame because of the shape of the frame spar.
It'll be interesting to see if the Envy equivalent part looks much the same and if they've considered any form of cap.
