Clearly the best thing about Ducatisti was the people on it, and the content they created. However, I also think that Dan designed a great website. For me at least that was part of the attraction - and the reason that I can't get on with a lot of other forums. Each screen on Ducatisti was packed with content rather than loads of blank space or banners and announcements. You didn't have to click and scroll as much as you do on other forums. Unobtrusive advertising. Very little space taken-up by avatars and personal details next to each post. Very little space taken-up by signatures after each post. I'd like to see this forum try to be as well designed. Not easy though. Dan showed real talent I feel and this forum has some way to go. Big advertising and big banners and announcements - barely any real content visible on the first screen ... Avatars and personal information too big - so most of the screen is blank space. With better design you could pack more posts onto one screen so less scrolling and clicking would be required ... This is the only screen shot of Ducatisti that I have - does anyone have any others?
Best for me was the name, I liked being a Ducatisti, being a Ducati Forum member doesn't quite have the same ring. Steve
The term Ducatisti has been around as long as Ducati, Dan just pinched it for the forum. You'll always be a Ducatisti!
FFS......You have a replacement site / forum, set up by someone that has our interests at heart and already it is being criticised.........I have to wonder why someone else hadn't set up a site earlier than this, if they could do better at relatively short notice. AL.
Dave, Thank you. Points notes. I think that the more you use this design the more used to it you will feel. However I will look at tweaks mentioned in your post. Thanks, Rob.
I'm sure I will Rob. At the end of the day it is the people and the content that matter the most. The trick to a good forum is to get the forum filled with great people and each screen filled with great content. Thanks so much for setting this up. I really feel it will be a great success. Sh*t - I've posted more here in the last day than I have on all other forums combined in the last few months!
Hey it's working Rob!!!! You've got Dave posting and Steve invoking healthy debate/ discussion, what more does a great forum need....whatever it's called. Anth
I take your point too, it's been Ducatisti since the mid 50's according to Ducati, so maybe not since as long as Ducati have been around, but close
I think its nice someone has bothered and its Rob's baby... I think a thank you is in order.... Although a bar with Guinness on tap would be nice
