No you strange person. That's what we've got with the EU now. After Brexit fortress Europe will be gone and we will be free to choose which weather we admit and we'll be able to trade weather and make reciprocal arrangements: you take our wet Wednesdays in November and we'll swap you a sub-tropical bank holiday.
Europe or the EU? The Greek islands are very different from the northern tip of Finland and the freezing plains of Poland. Anyway, I like a cold snap. Don't be such a miserable Minnie.
Not so. The UK is more temperate than the rest of Europe. We have milder winters and more comfortable summers. We are bathed in the gulf stream, our seas are rich, our soils fertile, our landscape green and varied. Our geographic position in the Atlantic ensures our mean temperatures are several degrees warmer than they should be. We have the advantage of distinct seasons yet we have relatively short winters and enjoy long, light-filled summers afforded by our northern latitude. To help you overcome your inexplicable loathing of your native land, here's how a foreigner, Emerson, saw the place: "[The UK] is a garden. The territory has a singular perfection. The climate is warmer by many degrees than it is entitled to by latitude. Neither hot nor cold, there is no hour in the whole year when one cannot work. Under an ash-colored sky, the fields have been combed and rolled till they appear to have been finished with a pencil instead of a plough. The solidity of the structures that compose the towns speaks the industry of ages. Nothing is left as it was made. Rivers, hills, valleys, the sea itself feel the hand of a master. The long habitation of a powerful and ingenious race has turned every rood of land to its best use, has found all the capabilities, the arable soil, the quarriable rock, the highways, the byways, the fords, the navigable waters; and the new arts of intercourse meet you everywhere; so that [Britain] is a huge phalanstery, where all that man wants is provided within the precinct. In the variety of surface, Britain is a miniature of Europe, having plain, forest, marsh, river, seashore; mines in Cornwall; caves in Matlock and Derbyshire; delicious landscape in Dovedale, delicious sea-view at Tor Bay, Highlands in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales; and, in Westmoreland and Cumberland, a pocket Switzerland, in which the lakes and mountains are on a sufficient scale to fill the eye and tough the imagination. It is a nation conveniently small. Fontenelle thought that nature had sometimes a little affectation; and there is such an artificial completeness in this nation of artificers, as if there were a design from the beginning to elaborate a bigger Birmingham. Nature held counsel with herself, and said, “My Romans are gone. To build my new empire, I will choose a rude race, all masculine, with brutish strength. I will not grudge a competition of the roughest males. Let buffalo gore buffalo and the pasture to the strongest! For I have work that requires the best will and sinew. Sharp and temperate northern breezes shall blow, to keep that will alive and alert. The sea shall disjoin the people from others, and knit them to a fierce nationality. It shall give them markets on every side. Long time I will keep them on their feet, by poverty, border-wars, seafaring, sea-risks, and the stimulus of gain. An island,—but not so large, the people not so many, as to glut the great markets and depress one another, but proportioned to the size of Europe and the continents. "[The UK] resembles a ship in its shape, and, if it were one, its best admiral could not have worked it, or anchored it in a more judicious or effective position. The shopkeeping nation, to use a shop word, has a good stand, anchored at the side of Europe, and right in the heart of the modern world."
I don't loathe my Country or people but i do loathe the cnuts running it and where its going! We have lost any culture we had to the USA.
I think that is what has upset barnier, we asked for our share of the wall that encloses the eu gated community, he went ballistic and Merkel started screaming, effing British, trust them to get controlled migration and do it properly, unlike what I did, himmel
hmm, i was gust reading this and found myself agree with you gimlet, i really do wish we had elected a decant gov

So you'd prefer to give up on the running of it altogether and hand over governance to an unelected foreign politburo who emphatically and quite openly and unashamedly do not have your interests at heart - indeed, who do not even recognise that you have legitimate national or cultural interests, rather than participating in the national democratic process and trying to change the way things are run? Doing so, of course, requires that when the result of a ballot doesn't go your way you take it on the chin and try to succeed next time by trying to convince others who voted differently to you of the merits of your case through reasoned debate and argument rather than just calling them cunts. Because that doesn't change anything or advance society one inch. It's an attitude in large part responsible for where we are now and it achieves nothing positive, just entrenches existing divisions ever deeper and replaces rational intelligent debate with blind unthinking tribalism. Do you not understand that the EU loves this divide and rule tribalism and the resultant loss of real debate because it makes it easier to replace representative national democracy with rule by authoritarian decree. They love people like you, not because they give one shit about you but because you do their work for them.
do you think maybe peoples minds are being changed by this and the way our UK gov is handling things? are they succeeding in uniting the countries of the uk?
