V4 An Honest Review From A Sceptic

  1. Sounds promising, thanks for that. Forums like this are the only places we'll get an unbiased true snapshot from a test ride :upyeah:

  2. To be fair though, that review reflects most of what I’ve read and seen in the press o_O

  3. You'd just end up buying more again :upyeah:

  5. I hope our wives appreciate how lucky they are that we're far to busy thinking about bikes to ever play away.

  6. You'd only wind up missing your 1198 and regretting selling it further down the line @cookster

Mines staying firmly put for the foreseeable. Don't think its a bad place to have some money sitting at the minute and seeing how other models have gone value wise over the past year or two :innocent:

  7. Speaking on behalf of myself only, i don't really see the point in investing in bikes as i would never be able to part with them, too much of a hoarder.

    Still have my Raleigh Styler!

  12. Just a sideline observation which goes back to a thread i started (cant find it now) relating to bike reviews and how a reviewer will always pick fault with the previous version....ive gotta hand it to 44teeth - they really know how to "skew" if thats the right word the wording....they'll pick fault with the previous incarnation just enough to get the mark/punter thinking "yeah...i really do need the new fantastic all singing all dancing version..." - but i might add they wont rubbish it enough to alienate themselves....probably all part and parcel of getting yourself hooked up with the manufacturer for the next big thing...

Not detracting from the fact that the v4 is a great bike but...you need to get the punters through the door....

See what you think....ironically they're only about a mile from house on this one...

  13. I would say it’s an honest review.... No way I would fancy riding the V2 around town for that long.

Bringing out a new ‘improved’ model is always going have this effect, you’re never going to jump on the V4 and not make comparisons.

I don’t think these guys are trying to sell you the V4, they’re just genuinely excited about the new bike.

  14. I do agree in some respects but ive got a big ole 2 valve hyper which is absolutely fine round town...clutch is light as a feather, mapped ecu makes it behave impeccably. I think the 1299 is an amazing bike in its own right - at the moment id say the closest thing to compare it against is an rsv4...

Just to add the main reason im a bit sceptical is mcn last year rating the the blade as the best superbike (not long after it put mcguiness in hospital and chucked Guy Martin off) also. Theres a you tube channel (Fort Nine) who put up a video saying essentially "we say what we think for for that reason we never, ever get invited to big releases" - they did name Ducati as one who has effectively banned them...

  15. Yep 44teeth have already said (as have some other journo’s) that the power doesn’t feel like what they expected. Next video, urrrr muuurrr guuuurrrddd it’s soooo fast

  16. I have to disagree, I found the power on the v4 was insane. I had a run with the lads this morning on the Pani in mixed conditions (we don't get rain often) and I have t o say the v4 has as much or or more mid range but the top end is so much better. I hate to admit it but the Pani felt so so after the v4. Don't get me wrong the Pani is a great bike that I love but the v4 simply destroys it.

  17. I think its a case of "how it makes its power". My arse dyno tells me my rsv4 has long linear power but, my z1000 with a short ratio (a very short ratio) box, full system with custom mapped ecu is far more violent up to 100 mph. As i say, and i say again - the panigale v4 is a great bike but i believe journo's are not rubbishing but "downtalking" everything else (thats the politest way i can say it) especially the outgoing panigale. Going back to my previous observation, theyre almost "feathering the nest" so they get on the next big release....dont get me wrong - what could be better than getting flown to some european track for a couple of days and then getting given state of the art hardware to thrash. Watched a video the other day of the v4 release from the South Africans (i think he's the first journo to trash well, two of them at once) - they were having a laugh about it so obviously theyre not footing the bill...
