I had the exact same problem on the same bike as you and arrived at the same solution, so don't feel too bad about the spend. Unfortunately I failed to noticed the leak and so suffered an embarrassing roadside failure and subsequent trailer home
Oberon all the way as the clutch is a lot lighter at the lever, The Ducabike and JHP items look trick but are costly. The seals on mine rotted out as did the bellows gator, so I just bit the bullet. It is a great improvement.
I've not ridden much further than around the block since fitting the Oberon but am astounded how it can offer a lighter pull at the same time as disengaging the drive more effectively. Even the feel at the lever is substantially nicer ...... so smooth. Brilliant piece of kit. Just hope that I'll be back on the road properly again one of these days, although that's an awfull thing to even think considering the circumstances.
That's quite a contradiction. The Oberon gives a lighter lever because it has a larger cylinder and piston, allowing more mechanical advantage over the clutch springs. This is and absolutely has to be at the expense of range of movement of the pushrod and pressure plate. Therefore the only way you can have more effective disengagement of drive is if you have bled more air out of the hydraulic fluid than you were able to previously. Oberon slave cylinders work well but let's not ascribe magical powers to them.
I wouldn't say I noticed any difference when I fitted the Oberon. What I like about the product is for circa £100 it solved my problem and I was able to fit the part myself and learn a little about the machine. That gave me a deal of satisfaction.
Exactly my point. But true, nonetheless. Although I think it has the same piston size as the original late Ducati item.
Iirc, Oberon can supply one the same size but usually sell a larger one for a lighter action and state in their blurb on the website that it could lead to drag or words to that effect. Come to think of it, that could well be why some people report a lighter action and some say it made no difference.
