Halvarssons Prime, Anygood?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Bodie, Mar 4, 2018.

  1. Any one got any opinion of the Halvarssons prime jacket.

There's some deals out there at the minute £299 down from £459 and it looks like a good buy?

    Thanks

  2. Had a top spec Halvarssons jacket & trouser set a few years ago.
Very comfy, good pockets and venting. High neck collar and removable high viz bin thing that can get stowed in jacket back pocket. Handy for France.
Had waterproof removable inner layer which was ok. Very small leak in the trouser liner after a year. Outers did get heavy when wet though. So upgraded to a Klim 2 piece with Gore pro laminate. So water runs off the kit.
The Outlast heat reflective coating does work. Italy in July and stayed cooler than my Klim kit.

  3. Be interested in where the £299 deals are as I’ve had my eye on this gear for a while.

  4. Halvarssons gear is up there with the best, tough as old bollox and fits great, unlike some others you can get good discount if you shop around :upyeah:

  5. BTW just received a Rukka jacket, the shell is Goretex, superb bit of kit. But its from fcmoto, wish I had checked on them a bit more..right jacket, right size BUT having to return jacket as its missing the armour and zip in insulated liner. Why (?) they could not just send the missing parts (have asked, no can do) is a mystery, seems they need to send a 'complete' jacket.
Some textiles have some serious protection in impact areas, kevlar weave etc. but really takes some research to find out which products. Some Rukka is superb, some Halvarssons, but often different materials used within garments from the same manufacturer. I went for the Goretex as I dont like bulk and multiple layers to achieve being waterproof.

  6. ...and Rukka, Halvarssons/Lindstrands zip together. Have checked.

  7. I had a Halvassons suit for just under 5 years, in general I was very pleased with it. It was comfortable to wear, reasonably well ventilated in summer, and warm and waterproof (to begin with at least) in less clement conditions. Eventually I replaced it with a Rukka because I was commuting every day year round and it (the Halvassons) developed a few niggles over time.
    • The volume adjusters at the cuffs are a stupid design, made of a rubbery plastic with slots punched through, inevitablly they broke even though I avoided using them. The same thing happened to a mate's as well.
    • Several of the zip pulls broke and were replaced with a variety of cable ties, bits of wire etc.
    • The waterproof lining started to become unstitched from the outer shell.
    • It began to leak at the inside of the elbows, I suspect because the waterproof liner had broken down at the creases.
    • In prolonged rain the outer shell became waterlogged and heavy. But that's characteristic of all drop liner suits not just Halvarssons and why I decided to replace it with a laminate suit that the rain doesn't penetrate.
Bear in mind this was after fairly heavy use on an almost daily basis, I suspect that subjected to more occasional use a Halvarssons might well last longer.

I still use it but now mainly in summer with the thermal liner removed as it's lighter and cooler than the Rukka.

    Hope this helps

  8. Halvarssons now make two laminate suits, the Luxor and the Wolf. They claim they're the equal of top end laminates (meaning Rukka) but cooler and less stiff. Its half the price of Rukka but still £900 for jacket and trousers. Expensive mistake if its not up to scratch.

I think I'm done with drop in liner suits. Too many disadvantages. I'd definitely be in the market for an "affordable" laminate if it works (and lasts). The cheaper price of Halvarssons doesn't necessarily mean anything. You definitely pay a premium for the name with Rukka and Klim (I overheard a rep talking in a dealership recently and he said the UK is the single biggest market for Klim and they sell more to us than to all the rest of Europe put together so with a ready market like ours I doubt they're giving us much of a discount).

If you're listening Halvarssons, bung me a Wolf suit and I'll do you a long term test on it. :eyes:

  9. Only experience of Halvarssons stuff I have is, I purchased a pair of their gloves which has put me off their kit completely. Not cheap and very poor performance. They leaked almost from the first time it rained.
@Bodie, if you are determined to get the kit and the kit is on offer and in stock on line, try Moto Legends as well, as they will price match plus an extra 10% on top, unless the discount you've seen is with them in the first place.

  10. I'm not going to be touring, I just need something warm and dry to wear riding between a few locations. Is there a suitable warm one piece suit that I can just slip in and out of that may be better suited?

  11. I'd have a look at Ride magazine and see what they recommend.

  12. @Bodie
The one thing I wouldn't recommend is a one piece oversuit - unless you enjoy the full boil in the bag experience!

After decades of riding in leathers and a one piece oversuit for when it rained I switched to textiles when I bought my Halvarssons suit in 2012. It was a revelation and there's no way I'd ever go back.

For the use you are describing I'm sure Halvarssons would be fine. As @broke says it's definitely worth checking out Motolegends.

  13. Always good to get opinions and will now avoid the over suit :upyeah:

  14. 1 more for Rukka, I have Armaxis jacket and zip together pants 3 years old and fully waterproof without the waterlogging. Zip in liner for the colder days too :)

  15. I have their "prince" trousers, which pair with the prime jacket.

I've had them for about 2 years and covered about 15k miles commuting and touring. They've been 100% dry and I find them very comfortable. The fit is nice and close too, I'm not a fan of that baggy textile look.

  16. Picked up the new bike today and then bled my wallet dry by opting for the new Halvarssons Wolf Jacket and trousers. Like the idea of it not getting soaked through and it was a much better fit than the Dainese Master 2 (which you have to be a contortionist to do up the zip)

Never worn anything other than leathers, so my first ride was a lovely warm surprise :)
