996 Carbon Air Intakes

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Rosie, Mar 6, 2018.

  1. Hi all,
I'm looking to fit ducati performance carbon air intakes to my 996R and wonder if anyone can recommend a air filter.
    Thanks

  2. Welcome Mr Lee :):upyeah: - can't help with your question but someone will soon I am sure.
Nice Bike! Pictures would be nicer :)

  3. Bmc air filters are very good if your fitting carbon air tubes bud.

  4. I have these DP airtubes on my 916. I too recommend the BMC filters. Bit fiddly to install initially, but I get my induction roar back. Which was slightly muted with one of those foam over the trumpets filters.

  5. I thought the Ducati performance air tubes took the standard air filters, if they do they're much better than after-market filters, my carbon tubes take the standard filters.

  6. i have the standard factory ones on my bike but would be interested to know how you get on:upyeah:

  7. Will have a look at the BMC filters and also see if the carbon DP air tubes I have will take the original filters.
Will let you know how I get on.
    Thanks

  8. Hi, couldn't you manage to fit the original filters back in the DP air tubes so is that why you had to fit a sock over the trumpets ?

  9. If they are the std DP air runners, they have a slot inside them to take the air filter cages. I put the normal std filters back in mine but pipercross are supposed to be better. I spoke to the lads at Luigi moto and they said use either these two as the BMCs can rob a bit of power. Something to do with Airbox volume or something IIRC.

  10. The jhp foam filters rob bhp .

  11. welcome Dave

  12. No, my DP carbon airtubes are one piece and the oem air filters sit lengthwise inside oem air scoops which as you know are in two parts, top and bottom.

  13. Different bike of course but I've put Pipercross filters in my 999 runners.
They are enormously better made and allegedly flow better too.
    Win/win

  14. Mine are carbon one piece but they have small lips inside to hold the standard filter cages, a bit fiddly to fit but they do. Same with Ian's.

  15. Mine dont have this (didnt know there were ones that did tbh) and mine are ones for street use as they have facility for indicators. Dont know if this makes any difference. Thus I had a pipercross foam trumpet one until i fitted the BMC's.

They are deffo DP ones as part numbers etc and Ducati performance in red printed on them at elbow where it clips onto airbox. (Hidden underneath sidepanel)

  16. Looks like the DP ones don't take the standard filter. Will look for BMC filters to fit in air box. Could add something inside DP ones to take standard filter maybe. Job for the weekend.

  17. Had a look inside my air filter tubes but could see nothing for the cages to fit into. Have added a photo with the ducati performance logo infused into it. Are they the same ones you have fitted ?

  18. Look the same from the outside...
Can you take a photo showing the insides?
