  1. Ok guys, gonna throw this 1 out there as it's got us stumped (sorry Viv :))
Turn the ignition on and nothing. After a few try's you get life, bike starts and no problem. Turn her off and on again .... nothing. Leave the key in the 'on' position and after a minute or so then all of a sudden life!! all on it's own.
I've wiggled everything wiggable but miffed.

  2. could be dirty contacts in the switch
wait see what others say yet

  3. Should have checked the old mots

  4. checked the battery??
have you followed the wiring from the ignition to the block connector that connects it to the rest of the loom?
seperate it and check for any corrosion in there ..also follow the wires from the alternator to the reg/rectifier then follow the wires from the reg/rectifier to where it block connects to the loom...another place for corrosion..also check the kill switch...you can take it apartand check for corrosion..check the charging fuse also..usually sits at the battery and is a 30amp green one..you can also seperate the ignition barrel to check the connections in there ...usually a clean up and a squirt with wd40 sorts it out...summit to be going on with anyway

  5. check the general relay
lefthandside next to flasher relay symptoms tally

  6. It's got a new battery
We checked all fuses including the one by the battery.
    They were all ok.

  7. It's also had a newish ignition barrel.

    We wiggled everything yesterday

  8. Cheers all!!
There is life in there somewhere as you can here subtle clicks when the ignition is turned on. A brand new battery and ignition barrel have been fitted.

  9. Funnily enough I went to put indicators on and the bike stopped
    Same happened with headlights
Though we did get dash lights up again and start her after that

  10. Cornish, when you say no life, is this when you press the starter button ?

^^^^^ oh just seen Viv's post!

Take the multi connector apart (the large black one on the left side, make sure the multi pins are not corroded,
give them a good spray with contact cleaner or similar.

  11. I just stood there tonight Viv when all off a sudden she sprang into life !!
I think there's more too it than just our wiggling you know :)

  12. Blimey that's a new one!!!
    Looks like gremlins
    Grrr

  13. Nope, when you turn the ignition key. I think reds relay theory is most probable?

  14. Unplug all connection blocks on relays and the switch gear etc and clean them, they corrode on the old carby looms.

  15. I second this, it's a yellow relay on a 916.

Mine was occaisonally and intermittently failing, when it does the power just goes off as if the ignition switch is no good - good news is it's easy & cheap to replace.

  16. And the prize goes to .......... Yellow Relay!! Thanks all :upyeah:

Viv ..... sorted, you can sleep in peace tonight!

  17. Yeahhhhhhh that's brilliant news
    I love this forum

Glad it's sorted and you can enjoy
    :)
