Repeat of US thread.. Following on from the rebirth of my ST4s 2002 shown here... https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/thinking-of-breaking-the-bike.57384/page-2#post-1075224 ...the clutch died around two week before the fix. I did not think much of it but there is just nothing at the lever. I checked the slave, and pushrod and plates all OK. I bled the system from the slave and started to get some air but not a lot It may be the master Is there a push rod that fits inside the lever actuator screw similar to the brake? I can see the adjuster screw in the lever and bellows in the master, I am just wondering if there should be a rod between the two. It is an area of suspect as I had the handle bars off earlier . Can the Master be repaired or taken apart? Are there any aftermarket options? Could I have a block upstream from the Slave?
Hi Johnny. Glad you got the bike running again. I have the same bike as you and after replacing my clutch slave I also replaced the master a while back. I had some dampness at the peg where it fits into the boot. I put it down to some fluid getting passed the cylinder when the system was pressurized again when I bled it after replacing the slave. For piece of mind I decided to replace it anyway. I had no luck with a rebuild kit. Everyone seems to be frightened of litigation. I think you can get the parts if you are confident of the cylinder bore size etc. etc. Anyway I kept my old master - this post is full of double entendres isn't it - and I was going to ebay it but as it would have to be sold as not working I didn't bother. If you want my 'working but may be leaking' spare you are most welcome. I'll keep hold of the lever but the rest is yours if you want to use it for spares or as a swap to help in the diagnosis. You may find that it works OK anyway.
Ducati stopped supplying Brembo spares some time ago due to litigation in America. However, Aprilia dealers still supply Brembo spares and I was able to get parts online from an Aprilia dealer called Pope. The parts diagrams are available online, so just identify the part you need and place your order.
Thanks guys. Raynewalk - Cheers for the great offer. I spoke to the dealer whom told me how to bleed the master. It worked like a charm. Now I have full operation. Old rider - I used this method to get seals for the Brembo front brakes.
