Shark helmets

  1. Anone used a shark RSI helmet ?

Thinking of getting an RSI Carbon because it's really light and to get a similar weight helmet in a shoei is a lot more money.

Any views on fit, qaulity etc appreciated.

  2. sorry haven't used one but I was looking at getting my aria done in foggy colours ala Shark but not ..obviously keeping the aria branding ..until I was quoted £300...hmmm me thinks I will use the money to buy a sic replica instead

I find the aria rather noisy

  3. Noise is part of why i want to replace my shoei x-spirit. It's shockingly noisey around the ears and fogs at the first sign of moisture or cold.

Lets down an otherwise nice helmet.

  4. (I do wish manufacturers would give more serious thought to the noise issue. I've bailed successively on Arai and Shoei for a Schubert for that single reason.)

  5. I got it in carbon and silver very nice and light , been waring Arai s for 20 years but after a 3000 mile euro trip when i broke both pods changing the visor and the noise on the motorway i have given them up for this very light helmet

  6. Shark are the new Arai.

I've got a Shark Vision R and am very pleased with it. The quality of the interior is second to none.

make sure you try one first though as some of their shells are an unusual shape.

  7. Had a Shark RSI & it was quite comfortable, although after an hour or so it did start to pinch the ears. Great visor change system & it never fogged.
Was slightly disappointed in the way the lining started to wear around the bottom of the helmet - even though I had looked after it very carefully. To be fair, this was after 4-5 years use though. When I changed it I got a great deal on an Arai & this must suit the shape of my head a little better as there is no discomfort even after 2-3 hours on the bike.

  8. Money the prime determinent in choosing a helmet?

Bell used to run a very successful ad campaign, if you have a $10 head wear a $10 helmet

Myself, I buy the best I can afford and only ever buy Arai or Shoei

Don't have a lot of money? then wait until May and go to the BMF at Peterborough and buy last years model at around 1/2 price

  9. I think you need to look at the SHARP Helmet safety website, just because it costs alot, or is an Arai or Shoei, doesn't mean it's the best or safest helmet.

  10. NZ Dave is spot on I think a little 'lid snobbery' may be raising it's head. I used to think Arai Shoei were the best available but that simply is not true. Ultimately it comes down to personal preference and wallet size.

For the money I spent on my Arai I expect it to be a lot less noisy....Disappointed to say the least. I wish I had a the chance to wear before buying !

  11. Agreed. Look around at the latest helmets, and look at the SHARP ratings, (and at the trail of broken lugs, and swearing owners trying to change a visor, their ears ringing with tinnitus) and no way are Arai superior.

I'm very grateful to my arai when my front end went after rolling and head over heals this is the damage it sustained my head hit the ground a few times.

The quietest helmet I loved was my schuberth S1 I think it was
Gutted when it fell off my bike and I couldn't get one to replace it hence the arai

    My AGV was mega noisy

  13. I'm glad it did what it was supposed to do Ducbird! :upyeah:

  14. Dave I remember watching the Tarmac through the visor *gulp*

  15. Thanks for the comments.

i'm going with a Shark Rsi Carbon. I've had Arai before (gave me headaches) and the Shoei although comfortable has worn badly inside and the noise/fogging is not good at all. I would have had a whisper kit for the Shoei but they don't make it for the X spirit models.

My brother just ot a Shark vision R and the qaulity looks very very good and he is really pleased with it.

  16. I has a Shark RSV helmet for a short time ,it was a great design but.......very poor quality construction and bits soon broke , catches , clips ,interiotr lining etc so I swapped it for a carbon HJC which is much better.

  17. too late i already pulled the trigger. Will be interesting to see how it shapes up, i'll report back once i have given it a test.

  18. How're ya liking the lid Spoonz?

  19. Looking in my kit cupboard, I can see an Arai, a Shoei and a Schuberth lid. I don't wear them much. Rather more tellingly, I also have three HJC lids. Why HJC..? Quite simply because they fit me best, which means they're not only safer, they're quieter too.

When I go helmet shopping I look first at the price, then try for fit, third comes colour, and then - and only then - I look at the brand. Keep yer Arais, my head's happy where it is.

  20. My next helmet will be a SHARK RACE-R or SPEED-R. Arai helmets don't fit my head and I fancy a change from Shoei. Would consider a Schuberth S2, but the price puts me off.

Currently wear a Shoei Qwest, but it's rather large even though it fits perfectly...
