FPN letter from met police? Advice please

  1. Back in August I got a FPN £60 fine & 3 points. (See thread if interested in background ... How do I get the Police to offer me a speed awareness course? Advice needed please)

I paid the fine online & took my license into the local police station in August 2012, but i still have not got my license back (paper & card version) At the time the EFPN was issued I didn't have my licence with me. So to complete the EFPN I was required to produce both parts of the licence at a police station, was then give the slip from the bottom to act as a licence until the original was posted back with said points endorsed.

I have now recieved this rather 'blank & devoid of detail' letter from the Metropolitan police.

The serial number of the FPN is correct, but why are they asking me questions about the vehicle reg, the date time & place, the serial number of the police officer/traffic warden and the offence code? (all questions that THEY SHOULD ALREADY know the answers to!)

Is this part of the process of getting your license back? or are they fishing for information as they have not processed the paperwork properly? (or lost it?)

The offence was at the end of August 2012, so it is now approximately 5 months so 1 month left.... However as i have already paid the FPN fine online will they still be able to add the points after the 6 months prosecution deadline?

My initial thought is to wait until after the 6 month deadline then send it back with 'unknown, I cant remember' in all of the spaces they request information.

Any advice especially from people who have had a form like this sent to them in the past.

  2. it tends to make me think that they have lost said details...

  3. i think my question to them might be, you tell me?......

  4. What you need to do is go get stopped driving by a "friendly" copper and get a 'hash DL' check done to see if you have been given the points yet.............alternatively ring DVLA like what the car hirers do for a check....

  5. Or just ask a traffic copper is you happen to see them parked up. The DVLA is the only way to check without speaking with plod

  6. me thinks they are looking you to drop yourself right in it ? cant remember is a good answer to everything.

  7. This is the DVLA licence check telephone number as used by race circuits and hire companies......09061 393 837

  8. Fingers crossed on this m8 - sounds like a ball drop by police somewhere!! I'd be royally freaked off by now.

  9. The 6 months relates to the time the authorities have to lay the information to apply for the summons.so dont do anything in that time, if they have lost your details .thier fault
you should have got licence back within a month, you can go to the court and see a clerk at the help desk explain you case and get you point quashed and money back happens a lot then go to local police station with you fpn number and make a complaint then contact dvla for new license paid for by police who lost it
