I'm definitely an enthusiast!:frown: You wouldn't catch me out on my bike at less than 65 degrees. ........and then you have "hard bastards" who rode past me this morning in the freezing slush and ice ! I would not ride in this weather in my worst nightmare, so I bow down to those of you who do !
Enthusiast here as well. As much as I love riding I need to restrict myself to days with good visibility and good grip. I can't risk another injury. Between smashing my right ankle to bits when I was 16 (still gives me problems 18 years later) and my current, and far more serious injury to my left leg and hip, anything else would not bode well for later life. Sadly I'm destined to have chicken strips from now on as I have to keep a decent safety margin, even more so in 2014 when i'll still be weak, just can't risk laying the bike down.
I don't have chicken strips any more........................you should see the looks of admiration and wonderment an old b*****d gets....... ........I've got Ghost's old scrubs fitted. AL
Always associate the word biker with chrome & tassels Not sure how I'd classify myself Somewhere on the shelf under 'Adult Fiction'
I hate to be classed as a biker and i don't mind riding in winter but not snow. Are bikers not a type of Tayto crisp?
Many years ago, my bike was my only means of transport. I did my time in terms of riding in all conditions. These days, I am fortunate that my bike is not my only means of transport. I ride my bike for pleasure. I drive my car to work & back. I'm not sure if that makes me a biker or enthusiast. What I do know is that getting back onto 2 wheels is the best thing I have done for ages.
been classed as a biker by people who do not ride and been classed as a motorcyclist by some that do ride some people classify you by what you ride some people assume that if you have a black leather jacket with a denim cutoff and long hair your a hells angel personaly i'm am the person your mother warned you about lol
Jesus Uncle Jimmy, that's a bit brave coming out on this forum, mum's going f*cking kill you when she gets hold of you.
+1 If you ride, you ride. End of! In my opinion I think its fair to say we all have our limit as to what we feel uncomfortable / unsafe riding in. I have and will often ride in sub zero temps to get to work, but I will not ride in snow. I've also found my limit, as I mentioned in a previous thread,is -4 in freezing fog. I have a bike for work and I have my Ducati so Im lucky. Personally I dont care if you only ride in the sunshine between April and September, ride all year round, tour the world on a GS, pootle around on a Honda cub, do your our maintenance, dont do your own maintenance, ride in leathers or jeans or textiles, young or old. To me, we are all bikers. There are no other labels
Like most here I'm very much good weather only these days. I've done my share of shite weather riding particularly as a despatch rider in my early twenties. Remember riding in the falling snow with my right foot on the cats eyes so I knew where the road went (ended up in a hedge 'cos cats eyes ran out, no damage as was only doing 4 miles a fortnight. At which point called office and said I was done for the day). Also have similar story to Dave. A few years back a mate of mine was Pere Ribas mechanic in British supersport. He gave me a set of tyres for the 998 which Pere had used for two laps of Brands. Used to impress a lot of people when parked up due to the state of the side of the tyres. Mostly I owned up, sometimes I didn't !!
I would like to think I'm enthusiastic about motorbikes and how they work and go together and a biker when I'm out riding I like being seen as a bikerchick I'm also amused at the looks I get when I say I ride a bike I obviously don't look like a biker to some Even funnier when I say I own a Ducati I have to close their mouths or explain what one is
That's cheating.. I'd managed to get down to virtually nothing on the right hand side, and a slightly scuffed knee slider...gotta love Milton keynes roundabouts.
I do like my cars as well, but bikes are my first love. If I can find some storage a late 80's / early 90's 250 stroker or bimota bb1 will join the fleet.
I dont think the weather has anything to do with if your a biker or an enthusiast, its what those words mean to others. Is a biker a gs550 owner who is a mag member and wears black leather with a denim waistcoat and an enthusiast has matching leathers / bike / polishing cloths and only comes out of his heated garage when its more than 21 degrees? Not sure to be honest, i just love riding bikes whether thats my 1198 or ktm or burgman.
