Aup guys got a 1299s with the electric suspension first time i have had this sort of fancy suspension i weight 9.5 stone probly 11stone max fully geared up has am after a bit of info on the suspension side has ppl had to change the springs or anything to get it set to ther weight for sag ect of course am guna get my suspension guy to sort it just rather no if i need to change owt befor i get to the track ? Any info would be fantastic
I have one. I weigh 10 stone. Are you going to use it on the track, the road or both? I have not changed the springs. For the track the spring rates are ok, they are a bit stiff for our bumpy roads. I had mine looked at by an Ohlins technician. He wound back the preload on the rear shock and left the preload on the forks alone. I use the Sport setup on the road along with M7RR tyres. I have modified it for maximum engine power and engine braking. I use a static set of parameters for the damping, with most of them softened. For the track I use the Track setup, again with static damping parameters, but I have left them as standard.
Hi its track only so is it a case of just setting the sag and the computer side of the suspension will do the rest i have no clue about suspension lol
Decent sag settings are the basis for everything. If you have a suspension man then let him set your bike up.
im 100kg ( naked and standing on one leg) so i replaced the rear spring on my 1299s and it seems to have made the bike a lot less unstable coming out of the turn. my TC trace on the DDA was very intrusive, but after the spring replacement, improved dramatically ( i carried out the EVO update at the same time, so one will have influenced the other somewhat)
No, it's an update to the traction control settings so that demi-gods can back the bike into corners with more finesse than before.
don't knock it unless you have tried the bike with and without. mine was a handful exiting the corners, and was also felt a little harsh in some conditions. after the Evo update, the bike is much better settled, in and out of the corners and the TC trace on the DDA is not showing as much intervention, and I am 3 secs a lap faster now due to the confidence in feeling. I had mine done as it was a 2016 bike sold as a 2017 (So was free after a few phone calls) and although im neither a Demi god or rear wheel slider, it has improved the bikes performance in my perspective.
If you get the right springs then you will not need to mess around with Sag and all that stuff that people always talk about with road and track bikes. I've not done anything with the 1299S as my R has mechanical forks but despite the auto suspension sorcery I'm reasonably sure it's just a case of changing the springs the same as the 1199S. I'm 84kg and although I am bottoming out the stock springs, I think that is more due to the epic brakes on the Pani and that they are the correct ratings for me. You are 15kg lighter than me so will very likely want to fit lighter springs front and back. Just putting a cable tie on the forks to check the travel is a good place to start.
I'm not knocking it. If you can feel the difference then you are probably riding your bike on the track far harder than I ever do (and are therefore a demi-god in my eyes ). When originally released, the TC update was marketed as providing a finer degree of traction control intervention at the already low levels offered by the system when in race mode. When I go to the track, I don't use those very low levels but I also don't perceive there to be any issues exiting corners. I did most of my learning on a 1098S with no rider aids so I kid myself that my exit style is smooth. I can't really afford to trash a £21k bike, so I don't use the really low TC settings.
Sounds good ill give um a ring as it might of been done surly they will have it on file to say wheather it has or hasnt cheers guys
So it smooths out the power and torque and makes the traction more usable guessing a few bhp if its like a map ?
unfortunately it only is indicated in the firmware/ software id, as the Evo is a sign that the Up map is installed I believe?
Ah thanks, I stand corrected The Evo upgrade is to the TC and related systems. It's more refined algorithms, also possibly higher frequency readings and adjustments but that might just have been marketing goobledeegook. Either way they are worth buying from the people I have spoke to; supposedly making the bike more positive when the systems are engaging so it's a useful tool rather than just safety systems. Map upgrades get done everytime the bike goes into the dealer so they would do that at the same time if you bought the Evo updates.
