You see i knew when i posted something you would straight along to post something to the contrary....
What exactly is a real world bike, anyway? My mate's Spondon GSX1260 turbo is definitely real, I've sat on it and everyfink. I've been trail riding on a Triumph Sprint, does that count as real world..?
Oh well, sensible time... get a steel framed CBR 600. It's all the bike you will ever need, cheap and tough as old boots. In a year it two if you want to move on, it will sell for the same price as you paid for it. The other advantage is that if you do drop it you won't have a heart breaking pile of expensive plastic - insure it tpft and use it to build up cheap no claims bonus.
good luck to you mate....there is always a debate on what is the most suitable machine for a newbie or a born again biker, and that debate will rage on no doubt..if youve had experience of a gixxer 750 then personally i wouldnt be too worried about jumping onboard something a little bit naughty, but its all down to ones personal comfort and confidence levels..additional training is always a good idea, irrespective of experience levels...buy what excites you and what you can afford is my advice..if you fancy something a little more cautious before moving up in terms of power, why not buy a decent 10 year old machine and have a season on that..you wont lose too much at reseal time and you'll gain experience and have time to research the market for a 'keeper'. either way, congrats on getting back to bikes and i wish you all the best and hope you have fun!
I quite agree. Things change too - you may find you are mist comfortable on something completely different now, 10 years is a long time. If you are a bigger rider what about something like a TDM 850?
I hadnt been on the road for about 10 years also - just a bit of off road stuff Bought a M750 got bored after 1 month, bought an S4r now I have an SF Like they say you dont have to ragg it to start with - but always nice to know you can
After a long lay off I got a 1200 Bandit, cheap, reliable and quite quick. It also gave me a better aprehisation of the lighter better handling bikes I had after, just beware ride it through a bad winter without cleaning it may well dissolve before your eyes
All good suggestions. looking forward to test driving a few when weather improves. I guess i should also seriously look at The 2013 Triumph Street Triple
I think the two main contenders are M796 & Triumph Street Triple. I need to test drive both first to see which one suits me best.
I quite like the figs point of view but surely it should also have Nitros for those moments when you just need a little more "kick" out the corner....seriously though if yer going spankers new buy a Streetfighter 848, dont pussy around with monsters that will be worth nowt soon, the SF, loads of power, good handling and cool as.....cue Char............................................
I think Funky has pretty much summed up my thoughts. Other than make sure that whatever you test ride you take it for a good long ride. You don't say why you've picked Ducati or whether you've ridden a big twin before, but they are very different to Jap fours and not everyone clicks with them at first. It took me about 45 minutes before the grin started to appear for me and it hasn't gone away yet, but if I had given up after 30 minutes I would have missed out on what makes Ducs a bit special. All the best with whatever you choose.
All good advice. I came across at my local Ducati dealer an S2R 1000 Monster 2007 2,500 miles looks immaculate, £4700 Maybe a possible? Less expensive than buying a newer 2011/2012 monster & maybe good for one or two seasons.
