  2. Last time a Brit was at the top was Sheene in ‘76 or thereabouts I think they said on the commentary.

  3. I think they said '79. Didn't sheene win in '77, so must have been top, even if just in the last race.

    But correct on the rider.

  4. Most farcical race I've ever seen, great rides from Cal, Zarco & Rins, organisers need to get their acts together, agree with Marquez first penalty but not the others

  5. I think race direction was between a rock and a hard place as far as the start of the MotoGP race was concerned. All of the field bar one starting from the pit lane? They were four or five abreast as they queued. All it would have needed was for two of the bikes in the first row to come together (e.g. clipons tangled) as they started and there could have been a BIG accident. It still sucks for Jackass though. Race direction HAS to put something better in place, even if it means that there is a rule that there can only be two riders abreast at pit-lane exit in situations like this.

    Well done, Cal!
Wouldn't it be ironic if MM93 is in contention for the championship at the end of the year and VR46 block him?
AD04 got away with it this weekend. I think he will quietly be celebrating too!

  8. Released TT style one at a time from pit lane in grid order...

  9. Considering only one rider on the grid, not a bad shout. He'd have been long gone so they could have safely released them in very rapid succession

  10. A great race, not for all the right reasons. MM is an astonishing rider but a black flag was warranted for his complete disrespect for the safety of others.

  12. Did anybody else hear Cal's comment about Dani today. I'm paraphrasing, but basically he said the Honda was so difficult to ride, if Dani went anywhere else, he'd be flying.

I ran this through Google translate and got...."I'll try a few mind games coz I want Dani's factory ride". :)

  13. crazy race! i guess this will be rippling through the whole rest of the season! MM93 definitly crossed a few lines there... but there's no denying just how much faster than everyone else he was as well! I wonder what would have happened if Dani had been able to stay in the race?

  14. Indeed!! I have been an avid Rossi fan since he started in 125s and he is still, without a doubt, as they say the GOAT. MM93, is probably the next rider to have the same level of talent as VR46, but yesterday he showed his inexperience and immaturity with a disgraceful performance. I never particularly liked Marquez but respected him for his talent, that ended yesterday!!

Good to a Brit on the top step, but why does Cal have to be such a dick every time he wins a race? o_O Again he's an extremely talented rider, but what a knob!!

  15. I see things slightly different in the 'who's the most talented' riders.

Rossi yes, without doubt has immense talent, but the likes of Stoner and Marquez can do things with a bike that many others have never seen. Lorenzo (on a Yamaha) equally is/was ridiculously talented for the clicking off of perfect lap after perfect lap, wearing down competition by the shear relentless nature of his accuracy.

What Rossi still has is race craft, and that's different to the guts and glory approach of Marquez.

One thing that Marquez is yet to experience is serious injury and pain following one of his moves. Riders tend to change following a race stopping injury, and sitting on the sidelines for months of a season wrapped up in casts, or spending hours on end in a hyperbaric chamber tends to change outlooks.

Marquez still rides like he's rubber, invincible even, and without much thought of others. Rossi used to ride a bit that way in truth, he's not exactly angelic in regards to squeezing up the inside and rubbing fairings, but he calmed down as he matured, and he calmed down after a few serious injuries.

Marquez is yet to calm down because so far throughout his career he's not had serious injury, and more so he's never faced very serious penalties for his riding style approach to the other racers on track.

As I don't wish to see him painfully injured, I do think Dorna need to start issuing race bans.

The sport has never been more popular, it's widely regarded as the most exciting to watch, and that's without the need of riders acting like dicks.

  16. Marquez needs big penalty and Honda too to make sure the message gets in. It was like he was playing road rash on the sega mega drive

  17. The start debacle was a black flag. His Espagaro move was a black flag, his Vale move was another black flag. All he got was a drive thru and a further 30s penalty. He is due at least another penalty. Great rider, no doubt. But he will injure someone or himself. You cant go racing like that. Still, it made for great TV. But the Canet incident has soured MotoGP as have these MM incidents. They need to hold their hands up, say they were wrong and retrosectively put it all right for the sake of the sport. MM is guilty as sin. Remember his Lorenzo move at jerez? Next race he will have bull bars if they dont take him to task.

  18. Anyone else watch on Moto GP app ? That Simon Crafer needs to go. How did he ever get that pit lane job. He is painful to listen to.
Very interesting and eventful day though. I enjoyed every second of it ( apart from the interruptions from Simon Crafer) , controversy and all
