Big red’s going nowhere & I can’t have my dream car (67 Mustang Fastback) because apparently it’s not suitable for business use *meh* Anyway it’s time to upgrade the 4 wheels. Narrowed it down to 3 but have “issues” with all of them. If anyone has any thoughts, particularly through experience, love to hear them. Option 1: Audi A5 (ticks all the boxes but Audi’s date so fast) Option 2: Jag XE (Do they still suffer from rapid devaluation) option 3: BMW 420 (preferred choice but always avoided Beemers because they get keyed a lot) Any ideas?
No, it’s for business use as well as personal but buying it myself. Emissions for the 2ltr diesels are similar for all three
Ahhh OK, was going to suggest a BMW 330e or Merc C350e hybrid if paying BIK on the car. Jag is a nice car, but still depreciates like a brick trying to swim. The BMW 3 series is about to be replaced with a new model, as the 420 is based on the 3 series, will that be changing as well. If you buy one in the next few months, you may find that you have the "old model" A5 are nice, especially the black editions. BMW or Audi for me.
Looked at the 330e but just really like the lines of the 4 series. Definitely tempted by the A5 but just look at a 3/4yr old Audi. Looks so dated as they constantly tweak lights, spoilers, trim etc. Ahh I dunno, it’ll be a spur of the moment thing unless someone can convince me otherwise!
A5 black edition or minimum s line, 2 door 3ltr diesel . You can haggle a great price as sales on diesel as sales are down 35% this month. The 3ltr engine is decent power, and gets bril economy on motorways. A good spec and very reliable. And you can put a million miles on it. But that’s my preference ;-)
Are you looking at new or ex demo? Some unbelievable deals available on ex demo cars. We (company) have recently bought a Merc C350e Sport Premium with a list of £42k. We paid less than £29k for a 3 month old car with 450 mile on the clock. I would always look for ex demo, unless proper rich.
I’m running a Volvo XC 60, I know I know it’s a Volvo but feck me it’s a superb mile muncher, super heavy on BIK at 50k but I can start it from my phone and it heats the seats steering wheel and windscreen before miles in 8 weeks! It’s the new model and they’ve done a fantastic job of the interior, great driving position too. It’s going at the end of the month though as I’m joining the Green Party and getting a plug in hybrid.....and saving a fortune in tax!
I bought a Lotus Exige for £16250 and ran a Renault Modus up and down the Motorway @ 80mpg+ The Lotus is now pushing £60,000 in value. Get the Classic Mustang and a Modus dude, be cooler than the mainstream business cock ends
Nope only 586 made and a lot crashed racing - no need for gold - unless you mean the Modus and a few pound coins as that's all it is worth now The Exige doesn't have a glove box, or a boot
I’m on my second 320D in 6 years, doing circa 25k miles per year. It’s a belter of a car, the automatic gearbox is fantastic for mile crunching and my latest has automatic cruise control, which is a great feature. Flick into sport mode, and for a 2.0l diesel, you can have a surprising amount of fun. The biggest drawback is road noise from the run-flats. The new 5 series also looks like a great car, smaller, sharper and lighter than its predecessor. I’m really tempted by and RS3 or M3 next time around and then using the mrs car for big mileage days. As mentioned above, I would be buying nearly new to avoid that initial hit. There are plenty of deals to be had.
Will definitely try & buy nearly new. Bought an Insignia a few years back, lost £6k when it left the showroom. Not driven the A5 yet, loved the Jags ride, but something is drawing me to the 420. Only drawback I keep coming back to is that every time you read about some gang nicking a keyless car or some skank vandalising one, it’s a BM.
You don’t know how close that argument is to my own! Me: “I could get the pony & then something else to get to work & back” Her: “No chance, I can think of better ways to spend that money than you having another toy” Hmmmm....
Get her telt, it makes financial sense. Buy what you want and something economical too, offer to spend the fuel savings on her (a new washing machine, iron or suspenders ) You both win. You also save on the massive depreciation of a new or nearly new rep mobile only to do it all again in 3 to 5 years - it just doesn't make sense to me
what's wrong with your man maths!?! the argument is very simply overcome: by having something to go to work in, you are saving money by keeping miles off of the mustang, the money you save by having lower depreciation on the 'asset' can be used on a 2nd car: net position. you're welcome.
All three of these pull heavily to the right, especially on Dual carriageways and motorways, such that drivers find it just more comfortable to sit to the right the whole time. Electrical issues seem to plague these cars. Manifesting as headlamps lights flashing for no reason, especially when a fully landen van is taking more than 2 seconds to pass a slower vehicle. Flashing lights in the amber corners never seem to work unless locking the vehicle. Hope you found this useful.
It does to me hourses for courses but having the best commuting experience is important when doing 25k-30k per year and 8 hour driving days. However, I would consider a stable hourse if my annual mileage was halved or quartered.
