I have asked this question before but didn't get far. I' need break down cover for my 98 ss for Spain. Now please don't be telling me how yoal get ya break down cover included in ya insurance as thats of no help to me. ( and if it was that simple I wouldn't be asking) Iffa you know who will provide cover at a good price I would be very happy... Plenty out there but few for a 20 year old work of art ..
Chiz, I used a company last year called Holiday Safe. Cover included repatriation etc and all for £21 for a week.
Hi I use Qdos cost me bout 70 quid for year luckily not had to use them yet but done lot of research and reviews they got were xlent and covers. U.K. And Europe done this after mate broke down in bottom of France and Carole Nash tried to right his immaculate but old r1 off, as cheaper than trying to get it back home he had lots of problems with them
Thanks for the tips so far guys. Do these outfits do older bikes? The trouble I'm having is with the age of my young steed.... as soon as I mention it's a 98 they either won't cover or prices quadruple. . The quotes I was getting for 10 days in Italy last year were around £180.00 ish
Have rang many companies today and all say same thing, they only cover up to 15 yr old bikes. Help appeciated from someone who has taken out cover recently
Try http://www.footmanjames.co.uk/classic-bike-motorcycle-insurance - they covered mine when it was over 15 years old. But you may find you have to join DOCGB.
Chiz, have text ya mate, but got quotes of around the 100 quid mark for the dates you want and the reg you sent me. Both quotes were from AA and RAC.
I’ve got AA Gold membership, it covers me and the wife for everything either UK or in Europe. I assume that as its the person covered and not the vehicle this would do it for you?
You might try adding Euro breakdown to your annual policy? Annual breakdown with Euro for a limited time period usualy six weeks is typically £50ish, plus an ammendment fee maybe £30 - cheaper than £180!
Are you 100% sure about that? I also have AA Gold Membership for the wife and I ... and I thought we had full European cover included as well ... but it turns out that my membership actually only includes two-days free European cover every year ... and you have to tell them which two days you want covered before you go ... and you can't use it to cover only two days within a longer European trip ... and they consider a European trip to be door-to-door so you have to start the European cover when you leave home even though you will be in the UK and on the ferry for the first day :-/ I know all this because I looked into using my "free" European cover when I was in Spain on the way back from Morocco last year and experiencing a deteriorating clutch on my CRF250 (riding in sand can be hard on the clutch!) ... but the AA weren't having it and told me I was on my own. In the end I managed to get home OK without assistance, but if the clutch had given up the ghost then I would have been in deep doo-doo with only a day to get back for my ferry, bike shops closed on a Sunday and a CRF clutch not being an item that shops keep on the shelf! Anyway, I rang them again yesterday to take out cover for next week's trip to Spain and they confirmed all of this to me in detail .... so I ended-up having to pay for the extra days to take it up to a week. I'd be keen to know how you got the "everything either UK or in Europe" included. If you aren't 100% certain that you definitely have it then it might be an idea to check before you rely on it again!
My insurers won' do it. Im with aa and they cover my ss in the UK but wont cover it in Europe due to age...
My 900ie is a 2002, and none of the insurers have refused Eurocover due to its age. I've spoken to probably 20 in the last two weeks as I'm haggling for the best price on my renewal.
Spoke with Chiz tonight, his is a 98, and 20 years seems to be the stumbling block, however, I have just discovered its a June 98, so technically its 19 years old, so crack on Chiz
