I was reading this post from a couple of years ago with interest. Obviously the mood was overwhelmingly yes. Even given that there will be some niggles. I'm revisiting this as it occurred to me that most of the replies were probably by owners who had bought new, so the niggles whilst still niggles would be dealt with under warranty. Then I saw this within one of the replies "Interesting question I would probably look at a test ride on the BMW S1000XR that sounds like it retains the sportiness that I still crave even though I’m approaching a birthday with a 6 and a 0 in it. Mind you it has a face only its mother could love, is it just me or do all those Beemers with different shaped headlights look like they’ve had a stroke? A mate has the naked S1000R and loves it, he even claims it has completely re-vitalised his appetite for riding. I'm still riding my 2012 mk1, did 9000 miles last year and it still floats my boat every time I get on it. To be fair it has been decatted and remapped and it's an 'S' with the Ohlins SCU. Had a few niggles but it is my 'forever' bike which I will ride until it dies. Andy
I'd have another S model (ohlins), really enjoyed my 2012 and only got rid to go back towards naked bikes for a bit
Just sold my MINT 2016 1200S touring ( amazzzzing bike IMHO )...just need to find time to test ride the 1260....then I think I'll splash the cash...
I have a 2010 S model and like Andy its fitted with a full termignoni, remapped and fitted with the Ohlins SCU. I love it, It's an absolute beast of a bike when you want it to be. Changing bikes keeps the interest alive but when you've got a good 'un the question is where to from here?
I'm the ideal Multistrada buyer - I can't see beyond it for my next bike - ever! The alternatives, like a big KTM or the S1000XR to my eye all have failings the Multi doesn't. Mainly with looks in the case of KTM (they are the definition of fuggly to my eye) and four cylinder vibes, cheap parts bin looking frames and plastics along with herd following in the case of BMW. None of the other manufacturers can match the visual design and holistic integration of what Ducati has achieved IMO.
Chatted to a lad at Ducati John's yesterday whose had 4! yes 4 currently owns a 1260 pikes peak. Says he cant find anything thats as good....
I have a ‘need a change’ thought every now and then. Go and have a look at the competition. Realise there is nothing else out there as suitable for how I use a bike these days.
I miss the nakedness of my earlier monsters and the lines of my 900ss, multi doesn't come to its looks, but when your on board with high revs flicking it through corners in such comfort there's nothing like it, it inspires confidence.
Yes, without any hesitation..... and I'm on my 3rd and 4th and looking for No. 5.... a first edition single spark Pikes Peak.
I agree. Occasionally re-consider the options, the various other current/modern bikes on the market. Run through all the pro's and con's. Try to keep an open mind. But still come up with the same answer, which is the Multistrada. When it comes to classics, the considerations are very different obviously.
Oddly, I wouldn't have a DVT though, they just look a bit fatter and bulbous compared to the previous generation. Still, we all like different stuff
This thread hasn’t timed well for me, as I’m considering between a Multistrada and a Triumph Explorer ( some concerning engine issues with the triumph) . I’m surprised by your remark regarding the DVT, I was under the impression it’s made a huge difference to the way the bike performs ? Is this the case in the real world ? Are there any of you guys with massive mileage multi’s ?
Iv’e just ordered my second Multi. Had a gander at what else is out there. Then realised there’s nothing quite like a Cat that is happy to cuddle up comfy but snarls like a tiger when it’s poked. Unconditional love all round. Don’t know who made something better but if they did I really couldn’t give a toss I’m happy as Larry and he’s apparently very happy indeed
Thanks everyone for taking the time to contribute. Although, apart from a couple I still think these are from people who bought a bike that was less than two years old. If anyone with pre DVT bikes and loads of miles on want to join in that would be ace. Thanks in advance. TB

The DVT engine is smoother no doubt, more refined if you will. It's just that as I'm fairly tall, the older riding position of the pre dvt models meant it could be ridden more 'on top' rather than sat within (if that makes sense) Couple that with what felt to me like a much snappier throttle / motor, add a tall seat and it was almost like a large supermoto to ride. I bloody loved my 2012 for that reason, sat up high, really punchy out of corners, great bike. You could probably make a DVT model feel similar, but the geometry and centre of gravity is far lower and it would probably ruin the best feature of the dvt which is it's smoothness. For a none owner I wouldn't be put off the dvt,it's just that for me personally I'm not as taken by its looks. They are the fastest A - B bikes in the universe though, that's a well known fact
