Gentlemen Help is needed. Connected the battery up on the Wife’s bike ready for a new season. Ignition on and all looks good. Needless sweep around the clocks, fuel pump primes, dash lights up then Ecu light goes out. Hit the starter button and nothing! Imobiliser light stays off ecu light stays off. So I’ve popped the cover off the solenoid and bridged the terminals and it started straight away. From further investigation. It looks like there’s no feed to the solenoid from the starter button. Now I’m guessing the relay is within the ecu. Because I can’t find the bugger and I’m aware it has a timed cranking. Also if it’s the imobiliser. Surely it would cut the fuel pump and ignition to prevent a simple bump start theft?? So can anyone offer any pearls of wisdom and help Mrs H get her leg over. Cheers
Have you got power going to the small plug on the rear of the solenoid ? They sometimes come loose as well. Steve
As Andy says, starter button, as you seem to have power everywhere else, just no power going to the rear of the solenoid to energise it. Steve
Starter button look fine Steve. Even bridged it at the multi plug into the main loom. It’s going to be something stupid but I’m buggered if I can find it. Bearing in mind it last ran in September and it’s only done 5000 miles.
I had the same issue wh my bike. Not a monnie tho. I had to fix it by by-passing the ecu that controls the starter relay and just use the button to switch the relay
Relay located yet? My old SS often needed its fuses wiggled before it would start. Fuses all intact but not making proper contact with the fuse holder. It was the highest amperage fuse in the main bank that was the problem.
The key cover needs to be done up tight on those monsters, a couple of times when I have had the tank up I`ve not tightened the cover up enough and I have had exactly the symptoms described.
Yep I’ve had the barrel cover off and refitted it. Can someone confirm the imobiliser cuts more than the starter solenoid??
I had an intermittent starting problem on my carby monster which turned out to be a broken wire (from the kill switch) within the loom, where it flexes at the headstock. But for quite a while it would still start reliably if I held the start button on while waggling the bars to and fro. Might be worth trying ?
Sorted! Bloody neutral light switch sticking. Clicked it in to gear and backout to neutral and the idiot light flickered on and off randomly. Clicked it in and out of 1st a couple of times. Hit the starter when the idiot light as on. And it came to life. As always the lesson is keep it simple.
